MICHEL (MIKE) CARRIERE
August 11, 1957 October 18, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michel (Mike) Joseph Carriere, with his children by his side peacefully on October 18, 2022 at the age of 65.
Mike will be missed dearly by his three children, Lisa (Bryan), Michelle (Billy), Daniel (Sam), and his grandson Banner.
He is survived by his father Denis Carriere, brother Denis (Diane), sister Charlene Derksen (JR) his nieces Rebecca Carriere (Josh), Celine Carriere (Colton), nephews Robert Carriere, Eric Carriere, special friend Mary Anne, and many friends.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Valerie Carriere, mother Betty Carriere, brothers Brian and David, and nephew Shane Derksen.
Mike was born and grew up in Digby, Nova Scotia until 1971 when the family moved to Winnipeg and settled in Transcona. Mike graduated from Transcona Collegiate Institute and continued his education to become an electrician. While in high school Mike met his sweetheart Valerie, they married and started a family while creating a life in Transcona. Mike joined CN and worked there until his retirement in 2012.
Mike loved to travel and took family trips to various southern hotspots and within the USA. Mike shared his love for fishing with his son, brothers and many friends. These annual fishing trips created many stories of "how the big one got away", each year the big one got bigger. Mike was part of a fishing club and enjoyed going on fly-in fishing trips with his friend Alfred.
Mike loved to laugh and joke with his family and friends, he was always saying "and we laughed, and we laughed, and we laughed", and boy did the nieces and nephews love this. Mike enjoyed the many family gatherings either at his parent's place or the cottage etc., these were always looked forward to by all.
Mike was an avid history buff and joined the St. Boniface Historical Society, creating the Carriere family tree. He spent many hours researching and sharing this with the family.
Celebration of life will take place on Thursday October 27, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day Street.
Mike will be missed by his family and friends.

My sincerest condolences and prayers to the family! Mike was my brother’s best friend from grade 9 on so I of course knew him quite well. I later served as Mike’s apprentice electrician for a short time. Always remembered! - Posted by: Bill Hughes (Friend) on: Oct 23, 2022

Lisa, Michelle & Daniel and Family - so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. Mike was a great neighbor and was fun to be around. Those Park City Halloween Parties were so much fun in fact we would probably be in trouble these days! Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time. May Mike rest in peace. My sincerest condolences to the Carriere family for the loss of their loved one, Mike Carriere. Mike was a person I can call a friend. He was a very hospitable and caring person. One thing about Mike is that when he laughed (often), he had everyone laughing. We had some good times at work, but as we all got older it was time to retire. It was then our friendship took a turn in the road to retirement, as we parted and never saw each other again. RIP Mike. You certainly earned it. - Posted by: Randy Heatherington (Friend) on: Oct 22, 2022
