IRENE OMENIUK
February 3, 1929 - October 18, 2022

With sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Irene Omeniuk at Holy Family Home in Winnipeg on October 18, 2022.
She is predeceased by her husband, Steven Omeniuk, parents, Thomas and Rose Praznik, sister, Joan Karakuc, and brother-in-law, Raymond Karakuc.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Bernie and Margie Praznik, her three children, Charlotte Fedorkiw (John), Debra Pitman (Ross), and Diane Simpson (Steven), six grandchildren: Matthew Fedorkiw (Karen Kabel), Stephanie (Fedorkiw) Bessant (Devin), Colin Pitman (Amy), Ian Pitman (Ashleigh Mercredi), Sarah (Simpson) Thompson (Michael), and Keith Simpson (Amanda Dutchak) and six great-grandchildren: Deacon and Maddox Bessant, Lorelai and Maxwell Pitman, and Claire and James Pitman.
Irene was born on February 3, 1929 in St. Andrews, Manitoba. She married Steve in 1950, and they worked together to build the family businesses while raising their family. She was an avid cook and loved gardening and sewing. She was a member of the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Parish where she was a member of the Women's League and a former league president. Always generous with her time she volunteered at church fundraising, family, and community activities. She and Steve enjoyed their time travelling together especially as snowbirds to St. Petersburg, Florida and to Minneapolis to watch the Blue Jays games when they were in town. Irene faced health challenges with her usual fortitude including rheumatoid arthritis, fractures for osteoporosis, breast cancer, and finally Alzheimer's disease.
The funeral service is at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main Street, Winnipeg, on Saturday October 29, 2022 at 10:30 a.m., interment to follow at Glen Eden Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Family Home, 165 Aberdeen Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2W 1T9 or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 4G2.

  • She was my godmother and someone who was always kind and gentle to me. She came and helped my mother after I was born. She hosted my family numerous times. She came to visit me after I had moved to the US. Although we were separated by many miles and I saw her infrequently she was often on my mind. I extend my condolences to her family. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Richard Cybulsky (Cousin ) on: Oct 22, 2022
