ALAN VICTOR WHITSON
November 23, 1942 October 17, 2022
Alan was born at home to Edna and Albert Whitson in Alma, Quebec, the youngest of four siblings. After high school, he fulfilled his childhood ambition to join the RCMP and in 1962 trained in Regina and of course was a member of the recruit choir.
Upon graduation he was posted to Quebec Division, where he eventually became a member of the Bankruptcy Section and evolved with it into the Commercial Crime Section. Always working in his spare time on his university credits, and with the support of the RCMP, Alan graduated cum laude from Concordia University with his Bachelor of Commerce after attending university full time for two years. Returning to regular duties, he was on the committee which developed a computer crime course for the Canadian Police College in Ottawa.
Alan retired from the RCMP to join Canada Post Corporation as Director of Investigations in Ottawa and after a second retirement, became a security consultant. Retiring fully, Alan and Doris moved to Winnipeg to enjoy and better know their western grandsons.
Throughout his life of volunteering in a myriad of organizations, Alan loved to read, travel and to sing. He was gifted with a good strong voice and was always a choir member - church or community. He was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church and a dedicated member of Lions Clubs International for over 50 years. He served in his local community clubs and was a Melvin Jones Fellow amongst other forms of recognition for Lion's service.
Missing his positive and cheerful outlook on life and mourning his loss are his wife of 58 years, Doris (nee Crocket); daughters, Alana (Ricardo Lama), Victoria (Timothy Sen), Audra (Jeffrey Anderson) and six grandsons, Nicholas, Zachary, Benjamin and Daniel Anderson and Cameron and Xander Sen; brothers, Donald and Frank (the late Rev'd Mary) and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sister Helen Dean.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring.
For those who wish, a donation to Diabetes Canada would be appreciated.

Dear Doris and family. I am so sorry to hear that Alan has passed away. I have known you for only a few years, but I do remember Alan's kindness in giving me rides to RCMP functions. His dedication in delivering Christmas cakes, sometimes in inclement weather, was admirable. In sisterhood, Norma Sanders - Posted by: Norma Sanders (Friend) on: Oct 31, 2022

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Al and our thoughts are with Doris and family. I loved to hear Al’s deep voice behind me when we sang together in the church choir. The congregation looked forward to his solo performances. He was generous with his time and his music was very much appreciated at the OsgoodeCare Centre. It was an honour knowing him Our sincere sympathies to Doris and your family Carol and Ford Patterson - Posted by: Carol and Ford Patterson (Friends) on: Oct 29, 2022

I truly enjoyed working with Al. He had no qualm of testing the system and making a point. When we were permitted for the first time in Montreal to write our reports in French, Al made it a point to be the first in the office to write his report in French. We saluted him. I am sad to hear of his departure. They better be organized when he gets to Shangri-la, if not, he will set them straight. My sincere condolences to the family. François. - Posted by: François Hummell (Colleague ) on: Oct 23, 2022

Dear Doris and family, It is with deep regrets that I learned of the passing of Al. Please accept my most sincere condolences. I was junior partner with Al while on Commercial Crimes section in Montreal in the years 1969-1972 and colleague in the years 1984-1986. I remember him and I being involved in heavy fraud investigations, the heurs spent in a reclusion going through piles of documents, and the travelling it required (Toronto area, Ottawa area, New York City, etc.). Al was a great investigator and a mentor to me, almost as a big brother. Pierre L. - Posted by: Pierre Letendre (Retired colleague) on: Oct 23, 2022
