NELLIE KOSTYNYK
December 26,1923 – October 21, 2022

It is with deep sadness we announce that our mom, Nellie Kostynyk, passed away peacefully, with family at her bedside, on Friday, October 21, 2022, at the Bethesda Place, Steinbach, MB.
She was predeceased by her husband Mike (2012), daughter Millie (2006), son Amel (2010), sisters Mary, Annie, Teklia. Molly, Polline and Freda, brothers Bill, John and Daniel, step-sister Stella and step-brother Walter.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Elaine and son-in-law Morris, son Tim, son-in-law George, daughter-in-law Lorna, grandchildren Scott, Curtis, Chris, Reese, and great-grandchildren Lauklyn, Ridley, Maddie, Carter and Andy, and step-sister Helen.
Mom grew up on a farm just outside of Vita, Manitoba. She married dad on December 7, 1946, and they had 65 years together. As dad frequently worked away from home, mom operated their business, the Sundown General Store, gas station and the MTS telephone switchboard, in addition to all the work required to maintain a home, raise a family and grow two huge gardens.
In 2005, mom and dad moved to an apartment in Steinbach where they made many friends. After dad passed away, mom remained in the apartment until 2015 when a serious fall and long hospital stay necessitated a move to Cedarwood Supportive Housing. Further serious falls resulted in her placement at Bethesda Place in 2017 to present.
Mom had a great sense of humor and had the most beautiful smile. She loved playing cards and board games, watching the Blue Jays, preparing delicious Ukrainian meals in Sundown Hall with the church group ladies, and most of all celebrating all of our birthdays. Mom, we will miss you so much!
We would like to thank all the staff at the Bethesda Place, especially Chaplain Lydia and nurse Jessica, for their great care over the years and for making her final days comfortable.
The funeral service will be held Friday, November 4, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sundown Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church – Cemetery Fund.
