LOUIS RODKIN
It is with profound sadness that the family of Louis Rodkin announces his passing on October 2, 2022, at home, beside his wife, following a 22 year battle with Parkinson's and Diabetes. Throughout this time his wife was his strongest advocate and supporter.
Louis is survived by his loving wife Judy, his daughter Sandra (Jarod), his sons, Kevin (Shari) and Allan as well as his granddaughter Abigail, and grandsons, Ezra and Noah.
Louis was born to parents Mona and Bob who immigrated to Canada from Ukraine and Poland. He had an older brother Saul who died when Louis was four. Louis grew up speaking Yiddish and English, which came in handy later on when he and Judy had something private to discuss in front of their three kids. Louis met Judy at a Hillel convention in Minneapolis, and they married in 1968. He was an instructor and then head of department in the Computer Analyst Program at RRC Polytechnic, a program he developed and was very proud of. He was considered to be an excellent administrator and a well loved lecturer who often had a joke or witticism to share. Table tennis, tennis, bike riding and cross country skiing were big parts of his life that he shared with friends and family. Anyone who knew Louis knew he also loved math and geography. He was the best person to ask about obscure countries that you weren't even sure existed. His taste in music spanned from opera and classical to blue grass and ABBA. Louis was a devoted husband and father. He was a kind, intelligent, quiet and thoughtful person with a wonderful laugh and the best one-liners. He will be eternally missed.
The family would like to thank Dr. R. Albak and all the staff at PRIME, Deer Lodge Centre, for caring for Louis, and adding satisfaction and happiness to his last years. Thank you to all who attended Louis' graveside service on October 6, 2022, to Rabbi Kliel Rose for guiding the service and to those who offered love and support to us through this difficult time.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

Dear Rodkin Family. My sincere condolences on the passing of Louis. Lanny and Louis enjoyed each other's company. I know that they loved to banter back and forth. Now they may be bantering back and forth in heaven. Before we had our children, Louis and Judy would visit us in Toronto. We had lots of fun. Then they came for visits with their three kids to Toronto, staying with us in our home and our two daughters. Those were good memories. Stay healthy and cherish the memories. I fondly remember Louis when I was a student at RRC in the early 90s. He was a very inspirational lecturer and mentored me throughout the Computer Analyst program; some years later I went on to teach in the program until I retired from the department and RRC in 2021. I remember his love of model railroads and his enthusiasm for interesting ideas in general. Although we have not had contact in many years, I am sorry to hear of his passing. My sincere sympathy to his family. Sincerely, Dan... - Posted by: Dan Jahns-Kraak (former student) on: Oct 29, 2022
