Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I fondly remember Professor Curle from my days at the U of W in his Intro to Film class. He had a way of making film come alive, and taught us the technical aspects of a variety of classic films. I grew to appreciate the classics through his class. Every time I watch one today, I think of Professor Curle. His remarks on essays would always be encouraging, and he always took the extra time to write more than a one-word comment. On one instance, after pulling an all-nighter to study for an exam yet still showing up to his three-hour evening class on no sleep after consuming a strong coffee and a Starbucks Double-Shot, my head started bobbing, and suddenly everything in his lecture appeared extra amusing to me. I got a bad case of the giggles, which I tried very hard to suppress. In my attempt to put my head down to hide, I misjudged and hit my forehead square on my desk with a loud thud. Several of us started giggling. Professor Curle paused, glanced at us curiously, then kept lecturing. Professor Curle could have yelled at me, could have kicked me out of his class. Instead, out of concern when there was a break, he asked me if I was okay. He genuinely cared about his students, and he was a caring, gentle soul. My sincerest condolences on your loss. - Posted by: Sandi Reimer (Former Student) on: Oct 29, 2022
