DAVID MICHAEL KATCHER
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Michael Katcher on October 24, 2022 at the age of 78. After suffering with the lung disease, COPD, he is now resting in peace.
Born in Russell, Manitoba on December 17, 1943, David predeceases his older sister, Anna Ferguson of Meadow Lake, SK and his younger brother, Gerald Katcher of Winnipeg, MB.
He leaves behind his son, Paul Katcher, and his daughter, Leah Thorne (Les), his four grandchildren - Kaia, Noah, Ben and Emma - along with many other family members and friends - to not only mourn his passing, but to celebrate his life through all the wonderful times and memories they have of him.
David was born in Russell but was raised in Binscarth, MB, making the move to Winnipeg in the early 1960s. He met and wed Suzanne Frenette in 1973 and raised their children until divorcing in 1986.
David retired after a 39-year career with the Manitoba Government in May 2004 and enjoyed his retirement spending his time and passion with the arts, cooking, gardening, and devoting his time to his Church.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice, and to please leave your comments and remembrances of David.
We are so very grateful to all the staff at Riverview Hospital that gave passionate and tremendous care to David in his final days.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 315 Munroe Ave., Winnipeg, MB with lunch to follow, then interment at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB.

I met David through my dear friend Ronnie who was his cousin. Together the three of us attended for many years the Royal Winnipeg Symphony and MTC. Laughter and conversations with David were always readily at hand and amiable. Most of the time..except perhaps when he and I got into sports. Many of those times resulted in car rides to the arts with heavily fogged windows. Having said that I saw David as thoughtful, kind and considerate. He was a gentleman and fun to be with. - Posted by: Germaine Gougeon (Friend) on: Nov 14, 2022

We were genuinely saddened to hear of David's passing. If there was a ministry or event at St. Alphonsus Church that needed a helping hand, David was always there with a smile and an open heart. I had the pleasure of getting to know David while volunteering with perogy making and enjoyed many coffee breaks enjoying toasted cherry bread from the Bake Oven with him. Perogy making was only one of the many ministries that David participated in at St. Al's and he will be missed by many. Our sincere condolences to his entire family. Rest in peace dear friend. We were so saddened to hear of David’s passing. I have many very fond memories as young children and our trips/visits to Binscarth. My favourite memory though is our get together in Maui in 2013…..I will always treasure this time we spent together. Sending all the family much love and our deepest condolences.
