June 1, 1927 - October 27, 2022

June peacefully went to be with her Lord and Saviour, surrounded by her family, on October 27, 2022. June was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Halger Anderson.
Celebrating her life are her four children, Eric (Henna), Margaret-Lynn Wilson, Ken (Nicole) and Evelyn Mayor; grandchildren, David, Crystal, Steven, Andrew, Melinda, Christie, Cathy and Jean-Paul; multiple great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Born in Amulet, Saskatchewan, Mom, the last of seven, was adopted at six months of age by her Aunt Mabel (her mother's sister) and Uncle Sydney Lawn when her mother died. June's dad, who had a young set of twins and four other young children plus a farm to look after, heartbreakingly ceded care of Mom to them who had just lost a baby girl that was stillborn. Mom's dad insisted that he receive all of her report cards, that she knows her birth family, and remains in contact. Over the years, Mom remained close to her birth siblings who predeceased her. Mom was raised on a farm in Crandall, Manitoba alongside her brother Jack Lawn who predeceased her.
Mom entered nursing school at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg after completing grade 11. Mom graduated the RN program in 1947.
Mom met Dad who was a patient while working at the Grace Hospital and married him in 1948 at the age of 21. Mom and Dad moved to Brandon and welcomed their first-born son in 1950. They moved to Winnipeg in 1951. Mom had three more children, all born at the Grace Hospital and continued to work part-time as private duty nurse. She went back to full time at the Grace Hospital in the early 1960s. Because Mom found the commute too long (two buses took over an hour each way), Mom took a job at the Women's Pavilion, but her heart was always at the Grace Hospital.
Mom was always about family, putting us above herself at all times, and was devoted to her children and grandchildren. When we were older Mom worked full-time, planted a huge garden, canned fruit and vegetables, made homemade bread, buns, cinnamon buns, and baked desert for every supper. Mom took a month off every summer to spend time at Falcon Lake with us.
Following retirement after 25 years of nursing, Mom travelled extensively with Dad and her favourite spot was Hawaii.
Mom's faith was the cornerstone of her life leading to her being very dedicated to her church. She was also active in the Grace Hospital Alumni, and supported multiple charities.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the love, care and support given by Meadowood Manor staff.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Grace Hospital Foundation, Meadowood Manor or a charity of your choice.
Mom's Celebration of Life is Thursday, November 3 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home with a luncheon afterwards.

  • We knew June trough, Henna, Eric's wife and meeting June in person at their son David's wedding. We got to know her as a gentle, loving wife, kind and always positive. Henna told us that she was like a second mother to her who always supported her and accepted her to Anderson family 100%. We also enjoyed her and Halger when they came to visit Finland many years ago. We are thankful for these wonderful memories and want to extend our heartfelt condolences for the Anderson family across the sea. - Posted by: Maaria Harska (Harska Family from Finland) on: Nov 01, 2022
