BENJAMIN (BEN) HECHTER
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Benjamin (Ben) Hechter, at the age of 51.
Ben was the beloved husband of Penny for 20 years, and devoted father to Sam. He will forever be lovingly remembered by his mother Gail Hechter and predeceased father Ted Hechter, sister Cheryl Hechter and husband Doron Raphaeli, and brother Joel Hechter and wife Yasamine Jacobs. He will also be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law, Greg and Dave, and sister-in-law Leanne.
Ben was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB and made lifelong friends throughout his travels around the world. He was generous, creative and strong in all areas of his life, and always put his family first. Ben was passionate about cooking, fishing, and devoted his career to hospitality services.
We extend gratitude to the staff of CancerCare Manitoba and Riverview Health Centre for their care and compassion.
A funeral service will be held at Congregation Etz Chayim on Friday, November 4, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Live streaming will be made available on the synagogue's website.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ben's memory at CancerCare Manitoba or Riverview Health Centre Foundation. Make a donation to

My deepest condolences to all the family. I am so very saddened to hear of his passing. I grew up with Cheryl and our families were friends for generations. I was at their home on Oak Street probably more than I was at my own. I remember many fun evenings when Ben was young, and I'd come over and babysit the boys. He was such a good young man, who grew to be a wonderful father and friend. My heart aches heavily for his loss. May his memory be a blessing. - Posted by: Joy Block (Family friend) on: Dec 01, 2022

My deepest condolences, Hechtner family. I've worked for Ben for a few short years at Bell MTS Place (now Canada Life Centre). Ben was that manager that supported his staff any way he could. He looked at us as family instead of just employees. He was kind, he listened, he took concerns and tried his best to fix them immediately. Even when he battled cancer, he worked so hard. He made us laugh with dad jokes after every pre-shift meeting and supported us. Ben was a blessing everywhere he went. He will truly be missed but not forgotten. - Posted by: Jemison Valencia (Work acquaintance ) on: Nov 19, 2022

Beth and I send our belated but deepest sympathies to Gail, Joel and all members of Ben's family. I have fond memories of Ben as a warm and kind hearted student. When last we met, Ben was at the High Tea Bakery. It was a pleasure and a joy to be with him again as he planned and had baked a beautiful 60th anniversary cake for us. Those few meetings rekindled the earlier warm and friendly relationship. - Posted by: Bernard A Beare (Friend and teacher) on: Nov 06, 2022
