ROSS SMITHSON
November 25, 1927 - October 28, 2022

After 94 years of living a wonderful life, Ross has peacefully passed away.
Ross was born in 1927 on the family farm in Pipestone, MB, the sixth of seven siblings.
At an early age he moved to Winnipeg to begin his career in the sales industry, selling everything from fire extinguishers to candy and hot dogs as well as men's clothing. He excelled at them all. He was also blessed with getting a perfect crib hand, a golfing hole-in-one and was honoured to be chosen as one of the best school crossing guards in Canada.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 71 years Dorene, as well as his daughter Cheryl (Ken), his grandchildren, Derek and Breanne, and many relatives and friends.
Cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held in the Greenwood Cemetery, Carman, MB.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Doreen and Cheryl, I was so sad when I read Smitty's obituary. He was such a lot of fun to be with. There never was a dull moment when he was around. I know we haven't seen each other for years, but Smitty was just not someone you ever forget. One of my memories was the time you helped us move the first year we were married. I'd just like you to know, I'm thinking about you and know how you two will be missing him a lot. All my love Your cousin Elaine - Posted by: Elaine McCullough May (Doreen's cousin) on: Dec 20, 2022

  • For about 10 years, I was in charge of street patrols at Dieppe school in Charleswood. Not one day went by without a smile, a joke or a witty remark from Ross who was the ever-present crossing guard. Dieppe was like a second home to him. He loved the interactions with the kids and their parents. he was always there, rain or shine, snowstorm and all. And I was lucky to witness all that and will always remember his kind demeanour, his simple ways and his stories. - Posted by: Benoit Lépine (colleague) on: Nov 12, 2022

  • Rest In Peace Ross…. Many memories with you golfing 36 holes in one day in Carman, playing poker with all the outlaws, going to Syl’s for hamburgers, fries and a milk shake. I’ll miss the stories you always told me and will just miss your friendship. Larry Stephenson - Posted by: Larry Stephenson (Friend) on: Nov 07, 2022
