It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Sophie on November 8, 2022, at the Carberry Personal Care Home at the age of 100 years.
Sophie will be sadly missed by her son Garry (Eleanor), her grandchildren, Kelly Ann (Thom Doherty), Tannis (Colin Knox), James (Michelle), Derek (Sian) and her great-grandchildren, Brendan and Connor (Doherty), Brayden, Colton, Jordan (Knox), Seth and Ethan (Shuel), Emma (Shuel) and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father and mother, Alex and Ksenia Marko (nee Matychuk), her beloved husband John, son David and daughter-in-law Eileen, and all of her brothers and sisters, Nicholas, Steve, Fred, John, Mike, Mary (Ilchyna), Annie (Sayer), and Kay (Clark).
Sophie was born in Ladywood, Manitoba on November 17, 1921. She married John on June 2, 1940. Their first home was in Anola where they tried their hands at farming, then moved to Hazelridge in 1951 where they ran a garage and bulk fuel business, it is there that Sophie managed the books and business affairs. They retired in 1976. Sophie was always very active in her community, whether it was at the church or Hazelridge Hall with the ladies making perogies and holupchi.
At her request, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held in her honour at a later date. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at the Eastdale Greek Catholic Cemetery, Eastdale, Manitoba.
