STEVEN JAMES HAYWARD
October 30, 1967 November 9, 2022
It is with great sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Steven James Hayward who was a beloved Dad, son and brother. Steven will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Brianna (little buddy); his mother Margaret; sisters, Debbie and Wanda (Todd) and brother-in-law Randy. He also leaves to mourn his many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends, Clarence and Ian. He was predeceased by his father Les; sister Donna and brother Les.
He was born and raised in Lundar, MB. Growing up Steven enjoyed dirt biking, skidooing, playing hockey and Dukes of Hazzard which led to some of his many collections he had later on in life.
At the young age of 16 he followed in the hardworking footsteps of his dad, and this paved the way to his lifelong career in road construction. He was respected and sought after for his exceptional skills for operating every type of heavy equipment, but grader operator was his expertise and favourite. He worked for various companies in Manitoba before the pipeline lead him to Alberta. Settling back in Manitoba he was employed by Nelson River which took him throughout the province. During his lifetime in the construction field, he made many great friendships and was known by all his coworkers as Big Steve.
My Dad was always a good sport for playing with my toys especially my Polly Pockets as they were very small in his large hands. Even though he was away working a lot he managed to attend many special occasions which included many long Christmas concerts, dance recitals, years of basketball games and graduation. Throughout the years there were many family vacations and, majority of the time, there was a swimming pool involved which would lead to what we would call "back surfing" involving me standing on his back and he was under the water. All these memoires hold a special place in my heart and I'll miss him dearly.
Steven enjoyed coming home to Lundar, spending time with his mom, having a home cooked meal and their ongoing cribbage challenges. Then off to his farm he would go.
Steve, my little brother, my best-friend, confidant, "partner", my rock. My heart will never be the same without you and even just seeing you brought a smile to my face.
We always had a great time no matter what we were doing. Only you could turn a 10-minute cruise into a fun filled day and never did we run out of things to talk or laugh about. I can't believe our projects, chores, going halfers on our purchases and ideas will not be discussed in our "meetings" in the Quonset again. Steve you were a stand-up guy that I could always count on. So many memories, too little time. My heart is broken, I'll miss you forever.
He will always be remembered for his deep belly laugh, his signature grin and the sound of ice-cubes tinkling in his glass. Steven you will always be loved and missed in our hearts.
A Celebration of Life will be held August long weekend 2023 at his farm in Lundar.
