ILONA (HELEN) JABOR
(nee MOZES)
December 13, 1929 November 10, 2022
With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Helen was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Lidia Mozes, husband Ivan Jabor, sister Piroska Sulics and her niece Margit Landeau. Helen is survived by her daughter Ildiko (Richard), grandchildren David (Jill) and Cynthia, and beloved great-grandchildren Sam and Jessica Ilona.
Helen was born in Varpalota, Hungary and remained in Varpalota until she married and moved to Budapest in 1946. The Hungarian Revolution of 1956 was a major event that changed Helen's life. She left Hungary with her daughter in hopes of starting a new life. On June 24, 1957, Helen and Ildiko arrived in Edmonton, Alberta. Learning English, getting a job, and starting a new life took many months. In the summer of 1961 Helen moved to Winnipeg and worked for Eaton's in the catalogue division. The catalogue division closed in 1976. Using job experience she got in Edmonton, Helen left Eaton's early and started at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. Helen remained at the Health Sciences Centre, Centre Supply Division, as a distribution support clerk until her retirement in 1995. Helen was a good worker. She was well-liked and made many lifelong friends at work. Helen loved to travel, and retirement allowed her to continue to enjoy her passions. Helen travelled with family, friends and by herself to many places, but particularly enjoyed her solo trip to Hungary. Bridge was a favourite pastime. Helen's joy, smile, and enthusiasm would light up any room.
The family would like to sincerely thank Holy Family Nursing Home and the wonderful staff on the 3rd floor for the gentle, loving and expert care she received since 2018.
A memorial service was held at North Kildonan United Church on November 17, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Don Johnson officiated.
In memory of Helen, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or a charity of your choice.
