HELGA E. WIEBE
(nee PETERS)

On November 20, 2022, Helga E. Wiebe (nee Peters) died at the Concordia Hospital.
Helga, born Joyce Delores Billi on February 10, 1932, was adopted by Gerhard and Agnes (nee Fast) Peters in January 1935. Helga and her parents lived in Gretna, Steinbach and Winnipeg. Helga attended the MCI in Gretna and graduated from the Steinbach Bible Academy. After graduating from Normal School, she taught in Spenser South, Springstein and Winnipeg until 1957.
On July 16, 1955, she married Jacob (Jake) Wiebe of Springstein and after a few years in Winnipeg, they moved to Sanford and eventually to Springstein to farm and raised their five children. In 2005 they moved to Winnipeg. Bethel Place and Rosewood-Norberry House were her homes for retirement and widowhood.
Helga's faith was central to her life. Helga and Jake were active members of the Springstein Mennonite Church. Friends and fellowship at Bethel Place were highlights for her.
Helga was always an avid learner. She learned to be a farmer's wife, mother, gardener, Sunday school teacher, seamstress, thrift shop quilt maker, speaker in the German service, translator of family letters from German and much more. She loved music, played the piano for her own entertainment and loved singing.
Helga and Jake camped at Riding Mountain National Park annually. Her love of nature was passed on to her children. She loved to read to others. She loved games like cards and dominoes. Traveling to connect with family and friends was a theme in her life.
Helga leaves to mourn her five children, their families, extended family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Jake; her sister Adelheid (nee Wiens) and her husband Arthur Harder; half-sister Marjorie Hartwig; one sister-in-law, three brothers-in-law and two nephews.
We want to thank both Bethel Place and The Rosewood (Norberry House) for being amazing places for Helga to live. We also thank Dr. Olson and the Geriatric team at Riverview, and the Palliative Care team for helping us support Helga.
Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2022 at Springstein Church, Springstein, MB.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Dear Family of Helga. Deepest Sympathy. We met Helga n Jake in Sunnybreeze, Florida. Many memories of games, n get togethers. We visited in Springstein many years ago. We parked our 5th wheel trailer at their place. Went to the farm, Wally was fortunate to ride in the combine. If memory is correct, there were goats on the farm?? We cherish many memories. Thinking of you all at this time of sadness, but rejoicing for dear Helga. lv Wally n Gloria. Stratford Ontario - Posted by: Wally n Gloria Kollman (Florida Friends) on: Nov 28, 2022
