June 17, 1943 - November 24, 2022

It is with deep sadness, that we announce the passing of Manfried Banek, Sr., on November 24, 2022, with his wife Hildegard at his side.
Manfried was a father to two sons, Manfried Jr. (Debbie) and Mark (Crystal), and daughter Veronica (Patrick). He was happy to be called Opa by his grandchildren, Emily, Rachel, Michaela, Avery, Spencer, Hannah, Everett and Easton. And known as Gross-Opa by great-granddaughter Ingrid.
Manfried was born June 17, 1943 in Ludwigsburg, Germany as the youngest child in the Banek family of three sisters and two brothers. Shortly after arriving in Canada, Manfried met Hildegard and they married in 1965.
Manfried was a man of few words, simple pleasures and many people called him 'friend'. He was at his happiest while fishing with his good friend Rudi, bowling with his teammates, having coffee (with kuchen) on the patio or watching his youngest grandsons play sports.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the St. Boniface Foundation 'Caring for Carers' program. Alternatively, a donation can be made to a charity close to your heart.
Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2022 at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg. Service will be livestreamed at

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Dear Aunt Hildegard, Manfried and Debbie (and family), Vee and Pat (and family) and Mark and Crystal (and family), I was heartbroken to hear of Uncle Manfried's passing. I have so many special memories of time spent with him. Over the years, he earned the title of “one of a kind”. I will especially remember the visits to many of my families US locations - Minneapolis, Fargo and Florida. We sure had some fun times together, as well as many exciting tennis matches! My thoughts and prayers are with you all right now as you mourn this great loss. Love in Christ, Connie, Herb and Jackson Raulston - Posted by: Connie (Niece) on: Dec 01, 2022
