FRANCESCO ACQUISTO
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Francesco Acquisto, on November 25, 2022, at the age of 90.
Francesco will be lovingly remembered by his children, Michael (Emira), Silvana (Tony), Robert (Lori), Frank (Cristina) and Jerry (Domenika); grandchildren, Adam, Justin (Meagan), Daniela (Steven), Amanda (Barrett), Michael (Alexandra), Riley (TJ), Quinn, Austin, Marco, and Alina; great-grandchildren, Noah, Mark, and Lana; and sister Rosetta (Gino); also, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was predeceased only 12 days prior, by his loving wife Carmela; parents Michele and Croce; brother Vincenzo; and sisters Carmela, Vincenza and Giuseppa.
Francesco was born in Casteltermini, Sicily on April 25, 1932. As a young man, he worked as a welder and iron worker in one of the many factories that supplied parts to the mining sector in central Sicily. On February 9, 1957, he married Carmela and on November 10, 1959, they boarded the 'Vulcania' and embarked on a trip that would bring them to Canada. They settled in Winnipeg and worked hard to adjust to life in their new country and raise a large family.
Dad shifted employment towards carpentry and worked for many years at Century Craft and Willmar Windows. He enjoyed gardening, making his own wine, working on small carpentry projects throughout the house, and watching soccer on TV. He enjoyed the many large family gatherings he and Mom would host, but also the quiet summer days, sharing a coffee and snack with Mom in their gazebo.
At the age of 80, as Mom's health worsened, Dad became her primary caregiver. He learned to cook and do the many things previously looked after by Mom. He mastered making tomato sauce, pasta with broccoli, soups, and never waivered from their preparation of natural and wholesome home cooked meals. The commitment, selflessness and love demonstrated to Mom during this time will be our enduring memory.
Francesco will be remembered for his love and devotion to his entire family. We love you Dad. May you rest in peace.
A Mass will be held at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue at 11:00 a.m. on December 2, 2022. A brief visitation period will commence at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at Holy Angel Mausoleum at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery, Hwy. #1 East, at Navin Road.
The family would like to thank the staff at Calvary Place Personal Care Home for their dedicated care and compassion towards Francesco.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a registered charity of your choice.

Our heartfelt condolences to your family. I am deeply saddened for your family having to endure the loss of both parents within 12 days. Your father's ability to remember my name and that of my family after going many years of not seeing one another floored me and I was so happy to sit across from him after your mother’s service and enjoy a meal and conversation. We are sending prayers and thoughts to you to help you with this very difficult time Brigitte & Joe Missalino - Posted by: joe missalino (Family friend ) on: Nov 30, 2022
