MONA BLANCHE MURRAY
(nee MURRAY)
October 7, 1921 - November 15, 2022
Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away at Toronto Western Hospital on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.
Mona was predeceased by her parents Cora Marion Turnbull Murray and James Henry Murray, her husband Stuart Elliot Murray, her son James Melvin Murray; her daughter-in-law Giah Eisenstein; her grandson Robert Murray Kitchen and her great-grandson Maccabee Murray. She leaves a beautiful legacy in the lives of her daughter Martha Janine Murray and grandchildren Jeremy (Karen); James (Jennifer); Correne; Patrick (Amy); Kyle (Abigail); Devon (Adrienne); Laura (Matthew), and great-grandchildren Wyatt and Norah; Ezra and Zachary; Everlyn and Eisley; Kennedy and Quinn; and Stratton and Robert.
Mona was born in Bowsman, Manitoba and was raised in Elva, Grahamdale and Winnipeg, Manitoba. After marriage, Mona and Stuart raised their family in Kingston, Sarnia, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Montreal and Toronto.
Mona was a graduate of Nursing from Winnipeg General Hospital (class of 1945) and Public Health Nursing from the University of Toronto (class of 1948) and attended United College, University of Winnipeg (Arts) and University of Toronto (Anthropology). A lover of music, she was an accomplished pianist and violinist.
She began her career as a public health nurse for the City of Toronto and after raising her family she returned to public health nursing for the City of Etobicoke.
Mona was truly one of those of whom it is said - we will not see her like again. A long-standing member of Bloordale United Church, she lived her faith as a Christian and her byword was - "I am my brother's keeper" - whether in her professional and community life of service to those in need or in the gifts of love, understanding and care she extended to her family and friends.
Friends and family are invited to Mona's funeral service at Kingsway Lambton United Church, 89 The Kingsway, Etobicoke, ON M8X 2T6 on Friday, December 9, with visitation at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary and service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Reception after the service in the Auditorium. The service will be live-streamed for those unable to attend the service.
Burial will be held at a later date at Chapel Lawn Gardens in Winnipeg, MB.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Bloordale United Church, 4258 Bloor Street West, Etobicoke, ON, M9C 1Z7.
