MARY HOPE (PUDDY) CUNNINGHAM
(nee MCINNES)
April 28, 1934 November 28, 2022
Puddy, as she was always known, passed away peacefully on November 28 at West Park Manor in Winnipeg after a precipitous, yet painless battle with Alzheimer's in recent years.
Puddy was born, raised and lived her entire life in Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her parents John L. and Hope McInnes and her four siblings Helen, Fraser, Gordon, and Cam. The youngest of five siblings, she lived in the River Heights area her whole life. Puddy attended Balmoral Hall school and went on to graduate with BA in home economics from the University of Manitoba. Her 'career' consisted of being a fabulous mom, a great loving wife, and a piano teacher of high regard.
Puddy was an active volunteer with the Junior League of Winnipeg and was a key player for such famous groups known as the "Swans" and "A Touch of Trash". She was also involved with the Woman's Musical Club of Winnipeg where she was President for 2 years and sat on many other charitable boards.
The piano was always her passion and pleasure. A gifted pianist who loved classical music. Puddy had the ear for music and could play just about anything if she heard it a few times. She taught many children over the years and was in high demand at any social function where she charmed and played for the crowd at will.
An avid cottager, Puddy spent all her summers at her family cottage at Minaki growing up. Her early adult years were at Turnbull Island on Lake of the Woods and then later adult years back at McInnes Island at Minaki. Puddy also enjoyed many years at the "trailer" at Mt. Agassiz where the family spent many years enjoying their lifelong passion on the ski slopes.
Puddy and Bob enjoyed many years traveling the world on exotic trips and cruises and visiting their children and welcoming grandchildren who were born in Europe and Asia.
Puddy is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert Cunningham, and her children Scott (Veronica), Andrew, Heather (Allen Challmie) and Donnie, as well and her grandchildren; Lukash, Ruby, Vivian, Lindsay and Stuart.
Puddy's relaxed, easy-going nature and quick wit were a true joy to be around.
Puddy was a shining star with a vibrant, positive nature that attracted people to her and made them feel great. She would lighten up a room just by walking into it. Her razor-sharp wit, full of puns, stayed until the end.
Her kind, caring and nurturing way and always positive attitude made her an incredible mom, grandma, friend, and wife. You will forever be in our hearts.
We would like to thank the staff at West Park Manor for their care and attention to Puddy in recent years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Our sincere condolences Bob, Heather and family. Puddy's commitment to Balmoral Hall School was lifelong and her generosity will not be forgotten. I remember visiting Puddy and Bob a number of years ago when she donated her red Riverbend blazer to the School Archives. Such a wonderful afternoon hearing about the old days of the school. Thank you. - Posted by: Genevieve Cloutier, Balmoral Hall School (School) on: Dec 13, 2022

What a loss for all of us is who knew Puddy. We attended school and university together and our friendship lead to many great experiences. Although separated by distance over the years, a visit with Bob and Puddy a few years back here on the Island brought back many memories and good times together. Our condolences to Bob and the family from an old pal and her husband Jim. - Posted by: Denny (Bleeks) Beeman (Good friend) on: Dec 03, 2022
