META ANNA BALKO
On December 4, 2022, at the age of 96, Meta Anna Balko (nee Hoffman) passed away peacefully while asleep in her own bed.
She will be greatly missed by her two daughters, Linda and Kathy (Bill); her granddaughters, Tamara (Dave) and Kayla (Jon); and her great-grandchildren, Zachary, Noah, Jaxon, and Harper. Meta is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Richard, as well as her beloved sister Kay Thiessen.
Meta was born in Germany, immigrated to Canada at the age of two, and spent her childhood on a farming homestead in Baie, St. Paul, Manitoba. She spent many years farming and raising a family with her husband in the Poplar Point area before moving to Winnipeg, where she started her own housecleaning business. Meta was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. Her faith was incredibly important to her throughout her entire life. Attending church Sunday morning was a priority for her even in her last days. She loved her family above all else, and would do anything and everything for them. Meta was a remarkably kind and positive person who loved to walk every day, and would greet everyone with a smile.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Saint James Lutheran Church, 871 Cavalier Drive with Pastor Richard Beinert officiating.

Mrs. Balko was in our home every other week throughout my childhood. I can’t express what a lovely presence she was and I have such fond memories of her. My sincere condolences to all of her family.
