Dear Carr Family especially Ben, I would like to express my condolences on the passing of your husband and dad. From all accounts, he was a very interesting and dynamic human being who served our country well. My daughter Caitlin met Ben at Carleton University and shared many stories of family politicians who served the Liberal party well. Hers was her grandfather, my dad, and Ben spoke of his dad. I believe they had many interesting discussions consequently. They were both blessed with these strong role models in their lives . Sincere Condolences , From Northern Ontario, Cathy and Stephen Hussey 🌺🌺🌺 - Posted by: Cathy Hussey (A dedicated member of the Liberal family) on: Jan 20, 2023

I remember meeting Jim (Jimmy) when I was 16 and my Baba and I had dinner at Esther and Daves home. Jim played his guitar for me and was very easy to be with. We also shared the same birthday month (October) and as the story goes, my mother went into labor at the same time Jim had his bris. We would kibbitz every time we saw each other and wish each other a happy Birthday! He will be missed. - Posted by: Darlene Hendler (cousin) on: Dec 27, 2022

Our sincere condolences to the family. We will always cherish the memories of our conversations on the beach at Matlock and the scotches. He was a true gentleman and pleasant conversationalist. - Posted by: Ghis & Mary Carriere (Acquaintance ) on: Dec 17, 2022

Jim and I attended Grant Park High School together. I believe his “claim to fame” was winning one year Grant Park football’s only one point!! I followed his career over his many years of public service as a Manitoban. Once we were on same airline flight and had enjoyed short chat. My condolences to his family and friends. - Posted by: Sandra Campbell (Attend high school together ) on: Dec 17, 2022

I met with Jim in his constituency office in Winnipeg when he was Minister of Natural Resources Canada. One of NRCANs programs funded a sustainable forestry initiative that I worked on. Jim was a good listener and kind human being. I could sense his genuine interest in what we were discussing. He could connect with people. I think we talked more about playing the oboe (he and my daughter both played it) and love of down time at our cottages in eastern MB and northwestern ON than we talked work. He was a shining example of what a politician should be, as well as a fine human being. Canada has lost a great person. - Posted by: Dr. Brian Kotak (Colleague) on: Dec 16, 2022

I had the great privilege of a multi-decades long friendship with Jim. He was an extraordinary individual for whom I and countless others across Canada had deep admiration and respect. Manitoba has lost an articulate and passionate champion; Canada has lost a great parliamentarian and statesman. I will miss Jim, his enthusiasm, his love of policy examination and debate. I will miss his friendship most. My very deep condolences to Colleen and the entire family. Jim my friend, may you rest in eternal peace. I have know Jim since 2001. We worked together as Liberals. I ran for MP in 2008 and 2011 so got to really appreciate just how wonderful of a person he was. I last saw him this summer at a rally. He had no intention of giving up. He got his bill signed into law before Dec. 12th so he worked to the end, in typical Jim style. His help in Parliament and in musical events will be missed. - Posted by: Martha Jo Willard DVM MD (Friend) on: Dec 14, 2022

I was not close to Jim but came in contact enough to realize that he was a remarkable guy in many ways. His devoted service to Winnipeg, Manitoba and indeed Canada are well known and documented. One aspect of Jim’s many talents was his ability to take complex subjects and make them explainable to the average person. He was able to distill the issues and present the arguments on each side. And he had the great ability to be able to converse with respect with people on both sides of the arguments. Everyone who came across him felt he would treat them properly and he did. A class act. - Posted by: Gerry Posner (Friend) on: Dec 14, 2022

I grew up with Jimmy and remember him as a studious sort. Jim was a man of Honor, a Canadian hero and beloved by so many. May his memory be a blessing. - Posted by: Susan Karr Lokken (Friend) on: Dec 14, 2022

Jim Carr led an exemplary life. I knew him back at the University of Winnipeg Collegiate Division in grade 12. He had a great sense of humour and a remarkable intelligence, plus he was a a fabulous musician. He was a role model to many for us. He was also a strong Jewish presence and was a great Canadian serving Wpg. South and Canadians across the country. Jim Carr went too soon and will be greatly missed! - Posted by: Howie Wiseman (friend) on: Dec 14, 2022
