ANNA MAENDEL
January 13, 1953 - August 9, 2022

Es hat dem Herrn über Leben und Tod gefallen, unsere liebe Schwester, Mutter und Ankela aus dieser Welt abzurufen und in die ewige Heimat zu nehmen.
After weeks of gradual weakening, our Anna passed away gently and peacefully here at home.
Anna was born at New Rosedale Colony, Portage la Prairie, MB, the sixth of the twelve children of Peter and Sarah (Wurtz) Maendel.
Anna attended the two-room Fairholme Elementary School, where Dad taught grades four to eight. Attendance to age 16 was mandatory, so she followed the example of a few others by completing grade nine via correspondence courses.
In Spring, 1976, our family welcomed infant twin boys, later adopting them in a joint guardianship between Dad and his daughters, Anna and Rita. James and Jason enriched our lives, enlivening our home, school, and community. We owe a great debt of gratitude to two members of Winnipeg's Jewish Community: retired lawyer, Samuel Malamud, and the late Provincial Court Judge Edwin Kimelman.
On Palm Sunday, April 3, 1977, Anna requested and received Believers Baptism and was accepted as a sister in the Hutterian Brethren Church.
In May 2019, Anna had major cancer surgery and a three-week stay at St. Boniface Hospital - an overwhelmingly positive experience all around, which inspired deep gratitude for her caregivers and surgical team, especially Drs. Sarah Keen and Erin Dean.
Anna adjusted well to the lifestyle changes resulting from a double ostomy, speaking openly about it in order to educate people.
Anna is predeceased by her grandparents, Paul and Anna (Hofer) Wurtz; Joseph and Katherina (Hofer), Rachel (Gross) Maendel; her parents, Peter and Sarah (Wurtz) Maendel; siblings, Sarah (1957), Peter (2008), Selma (2014), Arthur (2019); nieces: Petra (1974), Krista (1981).
She leaves to mourn, siblings, Pauline (Jonathan) Maendel, Chris (Catherine) Maendel, Dora, Rita (Jonathan) Wurtz, Anita (Glen) Schattner, Sandra (Eddie) Wollmann, Judy; sisters-in-law, Clara (Peter) Maendel, Anna (Arthur) Maendel; sons, Jamie (Evelyn - Kaylee, Sasha, Casey) Pelletier Maendel; Jason (Eileen - Sofia, Pedro, Taya) Pelletier Maendel; aunt Mary (Maendel) Dornn; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and all of Fairholme Colony.

May her memory be a blessing.
