It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Ruth Olafson, at the age of 92 on Saturday, December 10, 2022.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband Karl Olafson, parents Oskar and Hulda Kouhi, brothers, Alex, George, Walter, Kauko, Leo and Edward, and sisters, Aili and Irene. Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her son David, daughter Karen (Leo Larocque), grandchildren, Jordan and Danielle, sister-in-law Gail Olofson and nieces and nephews.
Ruth was born on September 29, 1930 in Raith, Ontario and spent her childhood years there. She later moved to Thunder Bay where she was employed by the Port Arthur General Hospital, and after graduating from King's Business College, she was employed by C. D. Howe Company. After her marriage, she worked at Caland Ore Co. in Atikokan, ON. Ruth then began her new career as mother to David and Karen, and created a home for the family. Ruth enjoyed her trips with Karl to Europe, Hawaii, southern states, and across Canada.
According to her wishes, a private family gathering will be held at a later date with interment at Glen Lawn Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the WRHA home care program and the staff at Actionmarguerite St. Boniface for their care and compassion.
