CRAIG DON WALDMO
June 25, 1970 – December 12, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved son, brother, and father, Craig Don Waldmo, on December 12, 2022.
Craig is survived by his parents Gordon and Judy Waldmo, his children, Brooke and Kristin Waldmo, his twin brother Cory Waldmo (Carla) and nephew Dylan, and Sandra Waldmo his girls' mother, all of Winnipeg, MB. He is also survived by his aunt Sandra Waldmo of Thompson, MB, and aunt and uncle Diane and Don Carruthers of Oakbank, MB.
He was born on June 25, 1970 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He graduated from Windsor Park Collegiate in 1988 and went on to attend The University of Manitoba where he graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
In his early years, summers were spent camping with family and participating in many baseball tournaments around the province. Many summer days were spent swimming and fishing at Falcon, West Hawk, and Blue Lake. Craig loved the peacefulness of fishing on a warm summer's day with friends.
Craig grew up playing minor hockey for the St. Boniface Seals, minor baseball for the Bonivital Lancers, junior baseball for the St. Boniface Legionnaires, and senior baseball for the Legion 141 Veterans. He played on many provincial championship teams and was frequently selected as an all-star for his outstanding play. Craig was known for his timely batting in big games and he excelled in his position as a catcher. He was always a leader on the field and a favourite amongst his teammates.
Life for Craig centered on the care of his two daughters. He was very proud of the academic accomplishments of both Brooke and Kristin and encouraged them to always strive for greatness. He always enjoyed attending their baseball and soccer games and was prepared to provide solicited or unsolicited coaching. Brooke will never forget the many long and insightful conversations they had, and the life advice he provided. Kristin will always cherish the memories of the drives out to hockey games and the funny conversations they would have along the way. Brooke and Kristin will always remember their father for his incredible sense of humour and wittiness.
An avid sports fan, Craig had a passion for the Denver Broncos and the Winnipeg Jets. He enjoyed going to Winnipeg Jets games with his brother and his dad at the old Winnipeg Arena. But Craig's main enjoyment came from watching his nephew, Dylan, play minor hockey in Winnipeg. He was a committed and loyal fan of Dylan's and he could be seen at the many arenas where Dylan was playing. He was so proud of the young man that his nephew has become. He was D's biggest fan.
Craig worked for many years as a Project Manager with Bird Construction and was involved in many complex projects that earned him the respect of the many different trades in the city. He was well known in his field and he really enjoyed the satisfaction of seeing his projects to completion.
Up until his passing, Craig was a Project Manager for Graham Construction. Graham gave Craig a new employment challenge and the opportunity revitalized him and he was so pleased to be a part of their management team.
A memorial service for Craig is scheduled for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

  • This is a little late but I just learned today of Craig’s passing. I was working as a subcontractor on one of Craig’s projects, and he was always one of the good guys. Friendly, funny and a guy that will be missed. Very sad to hear the news and wish all his family the best. - Posted by: Sam Borys (Work ) on: Sep 03, 2024

  • This is truly heartbreaking. Craig and I used to crack up all the time when we played basketball together his Grade 12 year. He was a ferocious defender and seemed to really enjoy the team aspect of basketball. If you look up "teammate" in the dictionary, his picture would be there. So sorry! - Posted by: Eric Christianson (Basketball teammate) on: Sep 17, 2023

  • My father (George) joined Bird as a Superintendent many years ago and Craig was his first PM. I am in the industry with Graham now and was fortunate enough to be on a project with Craig. When he would come to site he would always crack me up with stories about him and my father back in the day. Such a kind, funny and smart man. He will be missed by many. - Posted by: Colleen Vincent (Friend/Co-Worker) on: Dec 22, 2022
