ERNIE FRENZ
May 15, 1929 - December 12, 2022
It is with deep sorrow, heavy hearts, and much love, that we announce the passing of our wonderful father, uncle, Opa, and great-Opa, Ernie Adolf Frenz. He was 93 years old, and passed away peacefully with family at his side at St. Boniface Hospital.
Ernie was born on May 15, 1929, in Konigswalde, Germany. He and his wife, Ursula, left Germany in 1955 to start a new life together. They immigrated to Canada and made their home in Winnipeg, where Ernie was determined to fulfill his dreams of creating a better life for his family. He lived independently in his own home until August of this year, when he relocated to his "new digs," at an assisted living facility.
Ernie had an enduring passion for cars, and was happiest when he was washing cars or helping the family maintain theirs. His work life was spent in the auto and truck industry until his retirement in 1993. He was dedicated to his family, and was a very hard-working man, often holding more than one job in his early years, as a mechanic, to support his family. He also enjoyed listening to music, and spent many hours immersed in wartime documentary books and DVDs.
Ernie had an enormous heart, loved people, and was loved by all who met him. He deeply adored his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He lived his life with kindness, caring, and great generosity, and brought amazing joy and happiness to family, friends, and strangers. Prior to Ernie's last days, he shared a message with the family - "Be nice to everyone. Listen to your parents. Do not forget the Lord. Never forget "the good book."
Forever held deeply in our hearts, Ernie leaves many who greatly mourn his passing. His children, Dick (Carol), Marlies, Linda (David) and Mike; 11 grandchildren and their families; 22 great-grandchildren; many relatives in Germany, and friends. Ernie was predeceased by his son-law Don; his mother Elisabeth (Oma, Oma); and his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Ursula (Oma). They are at last together again and are rejoicing in heaven.
The family would like to extend their special thanks to the Home Instead and WRHA caregivers, for their compassion, care, and support over the past couple of years. Also, our gratitude to the caring staff at the Concordia and St Boniface hospitals.
To honour Ernie's wishes, there will be no memorial service. The family will be celebrating Ernie's and Ursula's lives privately in Gull Lake, Manitoba next summer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
Dad, Opa, you were a wonderful
and incredibly special person. You will
be forever held deeply in our hearts.
We will miss you so much. God bless you.

Ernie was a very dear friend to me. We worked together at PanAm Motors and shared many a happy time. Ernie was a very special human being, so positive, never a negative thought. I only wish the world could follow in his likeness. Ernie you will always have a cherished piece of my heart. LOVE your friend Gary. - Posted by: Gary Duncan (Friend) on: Dec 25, 2022
