ELAINE SCOTT
(nee SPEERS)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother Elaine, on December 19, 2022, at the age of 88 years. She was predeceased by her daughter Lynn Scott who passed in 2020. Elaine is survived by her husband, Tom, children, Glen (Margarete Moulden) of Winnipeg, Joanne (Mark Hayes) of Victoria and Karen McLaughlin (Brett) of Regina, her grandchildren, Leigh Morgan, Derek Morgan (Alex), Lauren Hayes, Kaitlyn Scott, Cameron Hayes and Robert Scott and great-grandchildren Jackson Morgan and Logan Morgan.
Elaine was born in Brandon, Manitoba and grew up on a farm outside of Alexander, Manitoba. As an only child she cherished her cousins and loved sharing stories of her time growing up on farm. She moved to Brandon to attend business college and started working at Traders Finance where she met her husband, Tom, at a work party. After transferring to Winnipeg, they married and built a home in Windsor Park to raise their family. Elaine worked at Prendergast School as a library assistant and then the staff secretary and once the children were more independent, she worked till retirement with the Grain Commission where she loved interacting with the farmers.
Elaine was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed playing ball and bowling and watching her kids participate in all sports. She could always be counted on for an early morning ride to the rink or taking a carload of kids out of town for a tournament. She enjoyed camping and planning family trips which took the family coast to coast. There was nothing Elaine loved more than a good card game and getting the Rummoli Board out when there was a crowd.
Elaine and Tom retired to Charleswood and eventually moved to The Wellington where they enjoyed to social aspect of retirement living. A special thank you to Glen and Margarete for chauffeuring Dad to visit Mom and looking after his needs.
At Elaine's request there will no service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Riverview Health Centre.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • We appreciated your phone call, Tom so we could prepare for this sad news. Our family has wonderful memories of times spent with you both and your family. I remember shortly after you were married, your visit to St Catharines where we kids thought you were the coolest visitors ever and had so much fun playing with you. Then there was the time your trailer failed and your whole family unexpectedly stayed with us in Cornwall. That was great fun for us too. In later years as we crisscrossed the country, Elaine was always thoughtful and ready to host us and to arrange a gathering of all the relatives. We remember softball and many card games. We hope the family will have happy memories of her kindness, feisty spirit, camping days and love of family and friends. - Posted by: Louise Routledge (Cousin) on: Dec 28, 2022

  • Tom and family, So sorry to hear of your loss. She will be remberred by us for her sense of humor, lots of laughs sitting across a card table. I know Mom and Dad cherished their visits with you just about every time they visited us here in the city. Reg, Sandy & Morgan - Posted by: Reg Speers (Cousin) on: Dec 24, 2022

  • So sorry for your loss Tom. Elaine was always such a pleasure to see. She was a wealth of knowledge and I always looked forward to her appointments. I was always sure to smile and learn something. May you always find solace in your many memories of her. May her soul soar with the birds now. I’ll think of you both every hike I take and bird I watch. - Posted by: Mary-Ann (Friend/ former hygienist) on: Dec 24, 2022
