GILBERT MONDOR
July 14, 1950 – December 14, 2022

Gilbert Joseph Mondor 72, of Winnipeg Manitoba, was surrounded by his close family as he passed away on December 14, 2022. He enjoyed motorcycling, cars, collecting oddball art, playing cribbage, going to greasy spoon diners, yard sales (as he loved getting a deal) and spending time with Diane at his cabin.
He has dipped his toes in many jobs, such as cooking, accounting and excelled in appliance repairs. He worked himself up from doing janitorial work to becoming a certified electrician at Via Rail. He worked there from the ages of 23 until 40, all while building a successful business buying up real estate for rentals. He had a tough exterior but was a sensitive soul with a big heart. He was smart and had a great sense of humour. He had a soft spot for animals, especially dogs and has had many over the years. He could be extremely generous at times and had a knack for helping people when they truly needed it.
Gilbert is predeceased by his parents Georges and Rolande Mondor, and sister Denise. He is survived by his long-time girlfriend, Diane, his son Matthew (Heather) and grandchildren Quin and Mika. Siblings Guy, Lynne, Bob, Ron (Linda), Nicole (Steve) and many nieces and nephews.
Service will be held at Glen Lawn funeral home on January 10, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gilbert's memory can be made to Siloam Mission.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I am so sorry for your loss. Every time I met Gilbert it was a fun memorable conversation. I loved the way he looked at life through a different lens. I will miss his smart sarcastic remarks followed by his chuckle. I will cherish the memories we made over the years. We were unable to attend the service being we were out of the country. • I first met Gil when I was 17 working for Triple L construction. Then 25 years later we are working at VIA. We had so many laughs together. I found him a buyer for that Trike he had two years ago. We want to go visit him this summer but time flies by and now I regret not visiting him. I loved all his antiques and his place. Super nice guy Condolences to the family. Ray - Posted by: Ray Lafantaisie (Worked at VIA together) on: Dec 24, 2022
