DOLORES (DYCK) LOHRENZ
Dolores died peacefully at the St. Boniface Hospital on December 26, 2022. She was surrounded by love and the care of both family and staff in her last weeks. Dolores turned 85 in the fall and entered the hospital a few weeks after her birthday.
Dolores was an amazing woman who could do anything she made up her mind to do: writing, teaching, baking, cooking, cleaning, decorating, public speaking... you name it. She was incredible.
Born in 1937, Dolly spent her early years with her parents, Jacob and Elsie, and her younger brother Roger, living in and around Morris, Manitoba. She was an amazing student and athlete, winning the Governor General's award in grade 12, running track, playing basketball, curling and being the President of the Student Council. After high school she moved to Winnipeg to attend Normal School.
Dolores met many life-long friends during her quest to become a teacher. It was here that John Lohrenz caught her eye. Dolores began her teaching career in Altona and John made many trips to visit on the weekends. After a proposal at A&W, they married in 1959. They moved to Winnipeg and she got a job at Crane School. Soon, teaching would take a backseat to raising a family. Dolores stayed at home while her kids were young, but took university classes on evenings and weekends. She eventually earned her teaching degree and returned to teaching grade one in 1988. She taught at WMES until her retirement in 1997. During this time, she also acted as a lay minister, volunteered at the MCC Thrift Store, wrote many stories, poems, sermons, went curling, and helped out with anything asked of her...all with a smile on her face.
Dolly was a wife, mom, grandma, sister, aunt, teacher and friend to anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 63 years, John; their children, Brenda Lohrenz (Dragan Duvnjak), Brad (Deb) Lohrenz, Ray (Joanna) Lohrenz and Sheri (Gary) Wasilewski; plus the eight grandchildren who she loved, adored and was so proud of: Tymon, Yurek, Jacob, Kali, Luka, Lucas, Jori and Tiana.
Dolores was an amazing leader and teacher. She will be missed by many. Her positive nature, and caring soul will leave a beautiful example for us to follow. You are our sunshine. We love you so much!
If desired, donations can be made to the Sargent MCC Thrift Shop at 644 Burnell Street.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 30, at 11:00 a.m., at Fort Garry Mennonite Fellowship (150 Bayridge Avenue). A Faspa will follow in the church basement. Burial will be at the LaSalle Mennonite Cemetery.

Dolores was always a warm and loving person to those of us who entered her lliving space. She gave of herself to many great causes, including foremost that of raising her family. John and family: you have a special place in my heart at this time. May God's gracious mercy and love prevail at all times as you take leave of one who has meant so very much to so many people. I met Dolores in 2007 when we both attended Heartspace writing school. We became good friends over the next 10 years or so. We were both members of the Treasure chest writing circle. I had not seen Doloris for several years. Some of my best memories were our meetings every couple of weeks where we had good times writing and telling stories as we sat around Ruth's dining room table eating chocolate rum cake. Dolores was a dear friend of many years. We shared our Mennonite faith and many church activities. Dolores was well loved, and loved others in return.
