WIEBE: Katherine Wiebe (nee Klassen) June 23, 1925 - December 29, 2022. It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mom on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at the Rivers Personal Care Home. Katherine was predeceased by her husband Abe in 2008; two infant siblings, Katherine and Kane; brothers, George and Dietrich; sister Anne and her parents, George and Anna Klassen. Left to mourn her passing are her children, Dennis (Gracie), Shirley, Janey (Larry) and brother John (Linda); grandchildren, Donovan (Sara), Aaron (Tiffany), Michael (Yong), Dallas (Leigh), Chrissy (Rene), Jamie (Jamie); great-grandchildren, Hunter, Hudson, Braiden, Hayden, Arya, Kayla, Rylea, Jaxon, Ava, Kaden and Kai and great-great-grandson Matteo; niece Judy (Alvin) Pauls, as well as many other relatives and friends. Mom was born in Russia in 1925 and was only a year old when her family immigrated to Canada. They settled into farm life in the Plum Coulee and Myrtle area settling in Rivers in 1940. Katherine married Abe Wiebe in 1946, a marriage that lasted 62 years. In 1958 Mom decided to work outside the home, first cleaning houses and moving on to work in the dry cleaning business and from there she worked at Gilchrist's Drug Store. She was employed by Canada post for a few years but when work was no longer available in Rivers she went back to working in the Drugstore. Then in her early 50's she decided to start her own painting business, retiring at 65. Mom was an active member of the Rivers Legion Ladies Auxiliary and received her Life Membership for 60 years of dedicated service. She held many executive positions within her unit and also the Council level. She was active in Rivers United Church, singing in the choir and involved with UCW for many years. Mom and dad enjoyed their cottage at Clear Lake for 16 years, sharing wonderful times with family and friends. Mom's hobbies included reading, playing scrabble, watching baseball and visiting with family. A celebration of Katherine's life will be held at Rivers United Church, 339 Main Street, Rivers, MB on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Messages of condolence may be placed at www.brockiedonovan.com.
