Condolences & Memories (18 entries)

  • My brother, Terry KOHUCH, just recently passed away (and I remembered his very good friend Lorne, so I looked up his obituary). Lorne & Terry were in the same grade at the Rossburn High School. We went home for lunch from school. Lorne would always drop in on his way back to school and we would walk back together. He was very close to our family and was at my mom's and brother, Peter's, funerals in Winnipeg. When we got together, we often remembered Lorne. Seems like high school was just recently!! - Posted by: Mildred (KOHUCH) SAKUNDIAK (highschool) on: Aug 11, 2024

  • How the time goes by...I had wanted to add a post of our love and our deepest condolences many times to Judy and family with the passing of Lorne. It was so difficult to believe that he was actually gone. He was such a huge part of our family and was always there checking on us after our Mom, Mary had passed away. He would give Ed, our Dad, a call throughout the years to touch base and give him any updates with the family. We always talked about a trip to Rossburn to see where the old farm was. Lorne loved his family history! He was often texting or calling to say hi, then there were the Christmas visits, Judy and him coming over for a supper of Chinese food, or Ed's birthday get togethers with the family. Lorne had also made a beautiful wooden box for Mom, when she passed, and it was also used for Dad recently....which was so appropriate. Lorne did such a wonderful job speaking at Mom's service....which, at that time, he spoke on our behalf...this will never be forgotten. His support, kindness and love will always be remembered. Lorne, you are missed so much...sending our Love and Prayers to Judy and family. Judy and Shannon...it was so good to see you at Dad's service...Lorne, Love always, until we meet again. • I’m so sorry to hear of Lorne’s passing!!! I met him through out involvement in politics and it was easy to see he was a man with a good heart. Smiling, laughing and always had a joke or story to tell. I knew him only for a fraction of years that many others did but he was always so kind and treated us as if we’d known him forever. I will miss him telling the cow story about healthcare and how it used to be!!! My condolences to his family and friends!!! • I am beyond saddened to learn of the death of my dear friend Lorne Topolniski. Him and I fought many political battles together. Side by side. He is an inspiration to all of us in the leftist movement. I’m gonna really miss you, Old Man. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ - Posted by: Aaron McDowell (Friend ) on: Jan 03, 2023

  • So sad to hear of Lorne’s passing. I first came to know Lorne in 1973 when my family was building and opening the Continental Motor Hotel. Lorne had worked previously for our new assistant manager, and he recommended that we hire him to fill casual shifts. Lorne ended up working a lot of shifts. He was quite the character back in those days and his availability and reliability kept him in work. In 1985 I moved to where I live now, and found through canvassing for the Lung Association, that Lorne and Judy were my neighbours. Over the years, Lorne has always had time sit down and discuss and solve the world’s problems with me, which was enjoyable. He also became my most reliable source for Garlic Scapes, once he knew not to throw them away. Lorne was a kind and generous sole, and I know his family will miss him. - Posted by: Dave Grant (Neighbour and former employer ) on: Jan 02, 2023

  • Lorne a fear friend. Indeed a life well lived. He offered his time freely to help others...even came by to help us with our garden rotatiller in hand. My husband Ken and I enjoied a long standing friendhsip with Lorne. He was always available to listen he cared deeply. Serving in many place in thr community. I believe he was a humble leader. In his quiet and humorous manner he shared many stories of blunders he'd had and how he returned to pray. His unwaiving efforts to grow spiritually an inspiration. We will miss him at our gatherings his wise comments will be quoted for years to come. Our deepest sympathy to Judy, the Kids and Grandkids. Farewell our dear friend Until we met again! - Posted by: Margaret Parker (Friend) on: Jan 02, 2023

  • What a good soul. Always active in the movement and optimistic. That laugh of his was infectious. He was also a deeply honest man. So often he would reflect on Judy and recognize her strength when things did not go well. To me he was the strength out of an era of the CCF Vichnaya Pamyat - Posted by: Dave chomiak (Friend) on: Jan 01, 2023

  • My heartfelt condolences to Lorne's family and friends. Lorne was a 'mensch', pure and simple; always looking for better ways to do things, help friends, and use all his wonderful energy to help make the world a better place. I'll miss our 'comparing notes' calls. Political life without Lorne just won't be the same, but he'll always be an inspiration to his friends as he was to me, that I'm certain. Thank you my friend. - Posted by: Randy Schulz (Friend) on: Jan 01, 2023

  • Lorne, over many decades when our large Topolie family gathered you were often there with us and for us, binding our Topolniski branches together with stories from our past. You took me back to Rossburn to see the site of the old homesteads, the one room primary school, and graves of our Ukrainian ancestors. You made the beautiful oak box in which we placed the ashes of my mother, your cousin, as you did for other elders as they passed on. Over the years I began to realize that we shared common values and perspectives beyond our family ties. How I wish we had lived closer and had known each other better. Lorne your legacy extends much further and deeper than you imagined. Your spirit lives on. Mabel Jean on Vancouver Island. - Posted by: MabelJean Rawlins (Second cousin) on: Dec 31, 2022

  • Sending my deepest condolences to Judy and family. Lorne was a longtime friend of mine whose passion for social and economic justice was laudable. He was a dedicated man always focused on building a better world, whether it was close to home in his community of West St. Paul or beyond. I am truly greatful for all the wisdom he shared with me and all that I learned from him over the years. Thank you for everything, Lorne. - Posted by: Evan Krosney (Friend) on: Dec 31, 2022

  • I am so very sad to hear about the passing of Lorne. Lorne was such a wonderful person who was dedicated to working towards a better world for all people. I will miss spending time with him and our long telephone conversations about politics and family. He was such an amazing supporter of my political career and a true friend to me. I appreciated him so much and feel so very honoured I got to know such a great person. A life long socialist like my father and mother were, he was a true mentor to me; always offering me encouraging words to keep on pushing forward in our struggle for Justice. I deeply valued his opinions and guidance. I am not sure if he knew, but he was often my one of my inspirations to keep pushing even when things got difficult. To Judy and family, I offer my deepest sympathies and love. I will miss you Lorne. You were so very dear to me. Thank you for your guidance and love. May you fly high in the spirit world. You will be loved always. Leah Gazan - Posted by: Leah Gazan (Friend) on: Dec 31, 2022
