Michael was a co-worker of mine employed by the Department of Education to support severely visually impaired students participate fully in the public education programs that other students chose. His very gentle, accepting and non-judgemental demeanour was indeed well appreciated by all of his students! Without doubt his loss will be mourned by myself and so many others! Michael was my educational consultant when I returned to Winnipeg from the W. Ross Macdonald School in Brantford Ontario to complete high school at St. Paul's High School. Although he was my consultant for only 2 years, he became a mentor and dear friend. Our friendship lasted for many years well into my early adult life. He taught me more over many of our celebrated pizza and wine lunches than I learned over a life time of education that has seen me complete 2 masters degrees later in life as well as enjoying a memorable athletic career, and full employment at a time when sadly, this right still alludes many living with vision loss. I regret that I lost touch with Mike in spite of running into people who knew him on occasion, and then making plans to reach out to him that never were fulfilled. Rest in peace my dear friend. - Posted by: Tim McIsaac (Student) on: Dec 31, 2022

I was Michael’s work neighbour for over 15 years. He was such a kind and gentle man and so good with his students. He had us out to his average a few times to socialize or let some of our students go for a horse ride. He was always there with our group for a fun evening. I know he enjoyed the quiet life- tai chi and his horses. Rest easy - Posted by: freya martinot (Colleague and friend ) on: Dec 31, 2022

I worked with Michael for many years at the department of education. He had a great sense of humor and really added a good element to our team. I haven't seen him for years but he is someone that you never forget. - Posted by: Debbie S Sitar (Coworker) on: Dec 31, 2022

Uncle Michael had a formidable role in my life. The peace he exuded, his commitment to living an authentic life, visions of him doing Tai Chi down the driveway, and the scent of woodsmoke that lingered on his clothes are a few of the many, many, many things I will remember. I will look for him in nature; in mornings like this one where the frost is coating all the branches. - Posted by: Maria Bromilow (Niece ) on: Dec 31, 2022
