JAMES DAVID RUSSELL (JIM)
Born: Apr 11, 1945
Date of Passing: Jan 02, 2023
Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES DAVID RUSSELL
Peacefully, on January 2, 2023, James (Jim) beloved husband of Shelagh, passed away at Riverview Health Centre. After many years of illness, he is finally without pain and at peace.
Jim was born in Winnipeg to William and Ellen (Nelle) Russell on April 11, 1945. The family moved to Kelwood, Manitoba where Jim went to school, forming many lifelong friends. He frequently talked of his years as the drummer for the Flamencos and treasured his friendship with guitarist, Ron Dilk. After finishing high school, Jim moved back to Winnipeg and applied for a lab tech job at Canada Packers. While attending the nurse's office for your pre-hiring physical, he met a fellow job applicant, Bob Drysdale, who remained another lifelong friend. Another school chum, Milton Murray (Sparky) would frequently stop by the house for lunch and they'd chat at length about school days in Kelwood.
Jim's work career took him into sales here in Winnipeg and in Edmonton. He worked for Dunn & Bradstreet, Superior Steel Desk, Gregory-Cartwright Office Furnishings, and Great Promotional Products. Poor health forced Jim to retire early. He was the consummate salesman, and could 'talk the hind leg off a dog'. His cousins Donna (Bruce) and Brian (Joan) were frequent recipients of his hour-long phone calls.
Jim and Shelagh met at a dance at the German Club in May 1984 and were married May 31, 1986. They were a working couple but did manage to spend a few winter vacations in Hawaii, Cancun, and Mesa, as well as golf getaways here in Manitoba.
A graveside service is being planned in Kelwood in May.
Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Seven Oaks Hemodialysis Unit, St. Boniface Emergency, and Riverview for their compassionate care of both Jim and Shelagh.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3, would be appreciated.
