JEAN MAY HORTON
Peacefully, with family by her side, Jean Horton passed away on December 29, 2022 at the age of 91.
Jean was predeceased by her husband Allan. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Glen (Chris), Sharon (Paul), Don (Lynn) and Myles (Tracy); grandchildren, Daniel and Ayla; great-grandchildren Alex and Jovi. She is also survived by brother-in-law Doug and sister-in-law Wilma.
Jean was born in Snake Falls, Ontario to Ellen and Thomas Desjardins on October 30, 1931. She was predeceased by her two brothers and three sisters.
Mom and Dad married in 1952. In 1955 they moved to Fort Garry where they built a loving home and raised their four children. They remained in the Fort Garry area keeping close ties with family and friends.
As well as being a loving mother to her four "cheeky brats" Mom held several jobs including Eaton's, Gondola Pizza and over 20 years at Safeway. While working at Safeway Mom made many close and lasting friendships.
Mom was an avid Bingo and card player. Several nights a week she could be found in the common room with her friends yelling "Bingo" or scooping up her winnings from crib or rummoli.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to The War Amps or to a charity of your choice.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and health care aids at the Victoria General Hospital who took such great care of Mom and us. We couldn't have gotten through those few weeks without your compassion and guidance. Also to the Home Care staff who, with their care, made it possible for Mom to stay in her apartment as long as she did. A very special thank you to Dr. Lowden who cared for Mom and Dad for many, many years.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd at 10:00 a.m.

I got to know Jean in the year 1969 as a young girl of 17, much older now, at Safeway. I will always remember her sense of humor and quick wit. It was nice to see her again at bingo - Posted by: Laurette l'heureux (friend from safeway) on: Jan 07, 2023
