GAYLENE LAUREL LAPOINTE
(nee FOSTER)

After a long battle with her health, Mom passed away peacefully at the Middlechurch Care Home of Winnipeg on December 31, 2022, at the age of 67.
Born October 31, 1955, she lived a lovely, but too-short life, always ready to crack a joke, or lend an ear to a friend.
She was predeceased by her husband Aime, with whom she shared many wonderful and happy years. Many would agree that those were the happiest years of her life, as Mom and Aime absolutely adored each other and were so happy to have found each other later in life. Mom was also predeceased by her parents, Trevor and Evelyn Foster. She leaves to mourn her passing daughter Courtney (Jim), and son Trevor (Amy). She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Trevor, Claire, Alec, and Henry; and her three sisters, Janice (Gordon), Maureen and Shelley (Ken) along with her nieces and nephews, Amy, Matt, Jeff, and Emily.
Mom became a stepmother to Aime's children and was so pleased to welcome Tiffany and TJay (Pam) into her life, as well as their children, Brayden, Grayson, and Gavin. She was quite excited to be named "Mama" by Brayden, a name which stuck and is how she is known today to all of her Grandkids.
Mom was born in Winnipeg and spent most of her life in St. Norbert, where she lived with her family as a child, and eventually raising her own children there. Mom loved to sing and had a beautiful singing voice, she would often astonish a crowd at a Karaoke bar singing duets with her sisters. Mom enjoyed travelling in her later years, including trips to Cuba, Vegas, and Niagara Falls, which she loved so much. She was always willing to jump in the car for a quick road trip to Grand Forks as well. Mom and Aime spent time in the Whiteshell with friends and she discovered a love for fishing and just being out on the water with Aime.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the wonderful staff at Middlechurch Care Home for the excellent care and kindness they gave to Mom during her time there.
A celebration of Gaylene's life will take place on Friday, January 13 at 11:00 a.m. at E.J. Coutu & Company Funeral Directors, 680 Archibald Street. Give Aime a hug for us Mom!
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Gaylene may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Dale and I would like to send our heart felt condolences to the family. Aimie and Gaylene come out to White Lake with us fishing every May. We rented a cabin and shared the food and chores and fished. We would have a fish fry with some of the fish we caught and enjoyed the week of fishing with them. We would all put in $10.00 on our first outing to see who would wind the pot of catching the first fish. The guys never won, it was always a toss up, either Gaylene or myself caught the first fish, no matter how big or small. We all laughed like 4 fools and enjoyed ourselves so much. I met Gaylene for lunch on day at Montana's a number of years ago and it was so nice to see her. I know she missed Aimie a lot as we all do. Now we miss them both. - Posted by: Dale and Peggy Albrecht (Friends) on: Jan 17, 2023

  • I am saddened to hear of the passing of Gaylene, my friend, whom I fondly called Slim Jim. That was a nickname I amicably called her after she gave one to me, Slim. I have known her for 32 years and have fond memories of her. One of which is she was always the star of the Karaoke contests. We had lots of fun times together attending lunch and dinner events. To her dear family and friends, Pkease accept my sincere deepest sympathy and love on her passing. Rest In Peace dear friend. - Posted by: Denise Erskine (Friend) on: Jan 12, 2023
