MARY ZARIE
(nee KIRKWOOD)
October 6, 1940 - December 13, 2022

It is with deep sadness that her family and friends announce the passing of Mary Zarie (nee Kirkwood) on December 13, 2022, at Poseidon Long Term Care Home in Winnipeg.
Born in Scotland, Mary immigrated to Canada with her family in 1949, and settled in Winnipeg, where she lived for the rest of her life.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, James and Catherine; her husband James (Jim); her brother Hughie; and her sisters, Catherine and Janet. She is survived by her nephews, Lewis, Frederic, and Iain; and niece Una.
In her youth, Mary was a competitive Highland Dancer, often entertaining at festive family gatherings.
For many years Mary worked for the Manitoba Liquor Board, where she met her future husband.
Mary enjoyed her fishing from a young age, and she and Jim spent many happy days on the water.
Mary was an also avid golfer and was a member of the St. Boniface Golf Club for many years.
Mary's passion was her embroidery and she crafted many beautiful and colorful garments.
The family expresses their sincere thanks to the Staff at Poseidon for their compassionate care for Mary over these challenging times, and especially to her friend, Sally Perchaluk, for her loving kindness during Mary's confinement.
Funeral service will be held on January 19, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 DesMeurons Street, with interment to follow at Glen Lawn Cemetery.
