ERIC MICHAEL SAWYER
Suddenly, while at his Arizona vacation home, Eric passed away on November 25, 2022.
He leaves his wife Joan, daughter Lindsay Sawyer Fay (Sam), and son Ian (Kate), his grandchildren, Carrie-James, Colton, and Lincoln, who knew him affectionately as "Guppie, Gramps, or Mr. Mustache".
Born January 25, 1947, to Michael and Lydia Sawyer, Eric resided in Woodhaven during his growing years. Eric enjoyed sports and close friendships in that small area of St. James.
After University, Eric never stopped learning, pursuing his CLU designation and other industry educational standards. He loved keeping current on daily affairs, politics, and sports. He would happily share his opinion with a person on any given topic!
He found his passion in Financial Services in 1981. Over his incredible career he earned many distinctions and awards, for his honest, ethical, and diligent care of his clients. He was a committed volunteer, both professionally and personally. Notably, he sat on Rady JCC Board, serving as President from 2010 to 2012. Eric was also a member of several national Manulife Advisory Councils, a Rotarian, and volunteered with Ducks Unlimited, many political campaigns, and community hockey clubs.
He was an avid sports fan, who loved fishing and golfing. His passion for fishing led to his recognition as a Master Angler. Eric shared his fishing expertise as a contributing author in numerous articles for Outdoor Canada in the 1970s.
Eric also loved the family cottage with friendships from childhood, as well as his winter residence in Arizona. He looked forward every year to seeing his Arizona friends and was in a place he loved at his passing.

Joanie, Lindsay, Ian and families. My deepest condolences on Eric’s passing. Eric was a great sharer of financial advice and life antidotes during our years at Manulife. I always enjoyed sitting in his office while he shared stories. Keep your memories close. He will be missed. So sorry to hear of Eric's passing. Another one of the good guys gone way too soon. We met at the U of W many years ago during Eric's foray into university politics from which ensued many formative relationships. Eric was a very good athlete and among his many accomplishments was being an all star defenceman and distinguished alumni of the Broadway Golden Buzzards ball hockey team. - Posted by: Doug Anthony (old Buzzards team mate) on: Jan 15, 2023
