GERALD LANGMAN

Surrounded by family, Gerry passed over peacefully on December 31, 2022.
Kind, fun-loving, always smiling, caring, full of life, always quick to make someone smile, "a good one". These are but a few of the terms we have heard about dad in the past week. And we have to agree! He was this and more, and he will be missed greatly.
Dad was born in Edmonton, AB, graduating in Civil Engineering from the U of A in 1950. One of his first jobs was working in the Rockies where he climbed glaciers and rode on horseback as his crew surveyed the mountains of Alberta and BC.
Dad married Mom in 1956, residing in Calgary, Winnipeg and Thompson. He worked for Reid Crowther and Partners Ltd., working on projects in rural Manitoba towns, infrastructure in Winnipeg, and most memorably - the Velodrome built for the 1967 Pan-American Games. Church was important to Dad and he spent many years at Sturgeon Creek United, serving as Chair of the Board and other committees. He enjoyed singing in the choir, and spent many years helping with the annual ChoralFest Festival.
Family was very important to both Dad and Mom. They made sure they were always present to support each of their grandchildren on their special days. They also instilled a love of travelling to all of them. Dad was a caring and giving person. He volunteered at the Cancer Society, Bowling for the Disabled, and the CNIB where he fixed the braillers and danced with the blind. He was active in the Westview Dance group, the Deer Lodge curling club, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand where needed.
Dad had been tired lately, and was ready to go back home, back to Heaven to reconnect with many of his family and friends. We are happy for him to be free, young and healthy again - dancing and singing with Mom. Lovingly remembered by his children, John (Pam), Brenda (Dave), Linda (Darryl); daughter-in-law Gail; grandchildren, Kevin (Megan), Tom (Colleen), Janet (Wayne), Scott (Anne), Greg, Janine (Derek), Allison, Jeff (Dani), and Michelle (Darryl). He was also blessed to have eight great-grandchildren - Ali, Haddie, Tripp, Everett, Isla, Maxwell, Amelia, and Julia.
Our thanks to the staff at Cambridge Manor in Alberta for taking such good care of Dad over the past few years.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, May 6 at 1:00 p.m. at Prairie Spirit United Church, Winnipeg, with reception to follow in the church hall. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book, please visit www.chapellawn.ca

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Condolences to the Langman's family. I met Mr. Langman in 1973 at Reid Crowther & Partners Ltd. I worked in the Mechanical Section and he was the Municipal Section Manager. I did the mechanical portion of some of his projects and I enjoyed working for Mr. Langman; he was pleasant and always had a smile on his face. After we left Reid Crowther, we subsequently met again at the annual Reid Crowther Alumni supper/lunches where all attendees shared their stories from the current year. In later years, Linda Manson, Mr. Langman's daughter brought him to the functions. Linda kept the alumni informed of Mr. Langman's status when he moved to Calgary. Sandi and I have fond memories of Mr. and Mrs. Langman. - Posted by: Robin and Sandy Sukhan (Friends and work colleague) on: Jan 17, 2023
