DERRICK NEIL KENDEL
Derrick Neil Kendel (87) of Yarrow, British Columbia, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2023.
Derrick was born to Philip and Amalia Kendel on October 8, 1935, in St. Boniface, Manitoba. He was very active (dust did not settle on dad). He loved sports! Playing and coaching hockey and baseball. There was nothing he couldn't fix. He was always working on some project in his shop. Anything from making wooden bowls, building bird houses, attempting to grow the perfect tomato, to milling cedar telephone poles. No job seemed to be too daunting for him to take on. He also loved the outdoors, fishing, walking, taking long drives.
Derrick was predeceased by his wife Davina Kendel. Derrick is survived by his six children, Neil (wife Belva), Darren (wife Allison), Rick (wife Barb), Brian (wife Jennifer), Craig (partner Patty), and Heather (partner Wayne). He has five siblings, Doug, Doreen, Arvella, Peggy, and Philip Jr. He is also survived by 11 grandkids, Laura Bourne, Lisa Hansford, Angela Kendel (Neil and Belva), Chad Kendel, Brennen Kendel (Darren and Allison), Logan Kendel, Liam Kendel (Brian and Jennifer), Caile Kendel (Craig and Patty), Kendel England, Spencer England, Jacob England (Heather and Wayne).
Derrick was a very quiet and gentle man. He enjoyed his solitude. He was always there to help if anyone was in need. One thing he always had and never lost was his great sense of humour. He would always put a funny twist to any conversation. When asked, one of his happiest memories is the first time he saw Davina. He loved his wife, but unfortunately, she passed away far too young. He never remarried. The song they shared was My Special Angel by the Vogues. Another one of his happiest memories is the day he accepted Jesus into his life. This was the turning point in his life. He was a devout Christian and was committed to his faith.
The family is planning a Celebration of Life. A separate announcement will follow later with all the details for a spring / summer 2023 celebration.
