CLIFFORD JAMES MCGIMPSEY

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dad Clifford on January 5, 2023.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Gary (Pat), Gail, Gwen, Gord (Patty) and Guy (Cathy), nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and his brother Leonard (Phyllis). Clifford was predeceased by his wife Muriel, brothers, Bill and Bert, and grandson Joel.
Cliff was born in Winnipeg on November 29, 1929 to William and Ella McGimpsey. Dad and our mom Muriel married November 25, 1950 and started their family of five children. Dad spent most of his working career as a City of Winnipeg Firefighter, supplementing his income with carpentry work. He retired in 1987 as a Captain. A true handyman and an excellent carpenter, he was always quick to help his family and friends. He was the best Dad a family could have and we will miss him dearly.
We would like to thank the staff at Concordia Hospital, The Maples Care Home as well as home care workers for their help over the last six months.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Our sincere condolences to the McGimpsey family. Great memories of a great guy! He will be truly missed. Jim and Doreen Skews, Vancouver, BC - Posted by: Jim and Doreen Skews and family (Transcona Neighbour ) on: Jan 14, 2023

  • Have known Clifford since eldest son married my best friend. Kindness radiated in his eyes and expressions. He was truly a gentleman and a great husband, father, grandfather. His love for his family was evident in all of his actions. He is now with the love of his life, Muriel. I am sadden by the families loss. No one replaces a father like Cliff. Deepest condolences to the family. Love Jocelyne - Posted by: Jocelyne Durand (Friend of the family) on: Jan 14, 2023

  • Gary, Gwen, Gail, Gord and Guy. Very sorry to hear about your father. I know you were a close knit family. What I particularly liked about the "Mayor of Matlock" were his stories. I especially liked his story about digging the Toronto Dominion Bank piles (Portage & Notre Dame). This was in the late 40s or early 50s and they dug them by hand! - Posted by: Robert James Mackidd (Family friend) on: Jan 14, 2023

  • I worked with Cliff when I first got on the job. He, like many others, helped me learn my trade and I thank him. A good firefighter, a good officer and always a good guy. I am glad he had a long retirement. My condolences to his family. - Posted by: Scott Miner (Collegue) on: Jan 14, 2023
