LAWRENCE (LAURIE) MICHAEL HORBATIUK
March 31, 1951 – December 24, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laurie Horbatiuk, loving father, son, brother, uncle, and "papa". He passed away peacefully at home at the age of 71 in Lac du Bonnet, MB, which was his home both in childhood and retirement. Laurie was a comedian at heart, and his dry sense of humour knew few boundaries. He was known for his larger-than-life personality, dwarfed only by his even larger heart. A straight shooter, Laurie told it like he saw it, was caring but firm and notoriously stoic. He could fix, build or MacGyver anything - always helping neighbours, family, and friends. He will be remembered for his love of music, hockey, coaching, hunting, golfing, family pride, frugalness, and that dang blue truck that didn't owe him a dime!
He is survived by; his 3 children who inherited his quick wit and resourcefulness, Jaret (Tamara) Horbatiuk, Catherine Horbatiuk, and Andrew Horbatiuk; his favourite brother Peter (Olga) Gula; his blended family and loved ones whom he cherished dearly; Connie James, Connie (Jordan) Eyolfson, Corrine (Brian) Harding, Christine (Will), Desneige Proulx; and his grandchildren, Easton Horbatiuk, Julia Horbatiuk, Jordyn Makela, Carmen Eyolfson, Carter Eyolfson, DJ Thibert, Dalayna Thibert, Emily Makela, and Ava Gignac. He is predeceased by his favourite sister Gladys Homeniuk (nee Gula), and first wife Susan Horbatiuk (nee Bachinsky), who remained a close and cherished friend. Laurie will be missed by many loving cousins, family, and friends, and even more so by his fur children Hector and Sadie.
A Celebration of Life will take place in Lac du Bonnet on June 10, 2023. Details to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the HERO'S Alliance in Lac du Bonnet would greatly be appreciated: www.herosalliance.ca/#donations

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • So sad to see this obituary and also read that Susan has passed as well. I babysat their kids back in the late 70’s when they lived in St. Vital and remained friends with them while they lived in Red Lake. My deepest sympathies to Jaret, Catherine and Andrew as well as the rest of his family - Posted by: April Boer (Bowcott) (Friend) on: Feb 09, 2023

  • To Connie and families I am so sorry to hear the passing of Laurie. My memories of him as a friend and co-worker in our earlier days will remain with me. He was always so helpful and understanding. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Donna. - Posted by: Donna Schichl (Friend and past co- worker ) on: Jan 24, 2023
