"There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in"
-Leonard Cohen
As we reflect on the years that have gone by, the light of your remarkable life continues to shine and cannot be extinguished. That is the beauty of a life that gave light to so many and touched the hearts of family, friends and students in countless ways. In our memories, we hear your voice singing the songs of our Ukrainian ancestors. We remember, with pride, your prowess in dance and choreography. We recall your wit, intelligence, and compassion. And we know that nothing can break the bonds of family and love. We remember you Garry, especially when we see a sun shower: "happy yet tears."

I was surprised to see this in the Free Press today. Mr. Kohuch, as I will forever call him, taught me English in Roblin, Mb. I think it was in my grade 12 in 1978 that he asked me to participate in an exercise with him. He wanted me to argue and then push him during a class to test the observation skills of students in the class. The students then had to write down what they observed. Right after our staged event him and I were so excited about how it went. Later we discussed what my classmates had written. I remember us laughing at how many were quite eager to throw me under the bus. It was something I have never forgotten. It really changed my view of teachers. I have thought of him many times over the past 44 years. Thanks for keeping his memory alive. Brian - Posted by: Brian Weeres (Student) on: Jan 14, 2023
