BYRON (BARNEY) WOOD
On Monday, December 19, 2022, at Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, Barney passed away with his family by his side, at the age of 90.
Leaving to mourn his passing are his son Don (Kim), daughter Karen (Ray), and granddaughters, Ashley and Megan. Barney was predeceased in 2011 by his wife of 54 years Katharine (Kas) (nee Stedman).
Barney was born and raised in Copper Cliff, Ontario where he started his career with Inco in 1950. Barney married Kas on September 28, 1957, and transferred to Thompson, Manitoba in 1960. Kas and Barney were some of the original pioneers of the new mining town. After 35 years of shift work in the mill, Barney retired from Inco in 1985 and relocated to Bobcaygeon, Ontario. In 2003, Barney and Kas made a final move to Winnipeg to be closer to family. Barney and Kas loved the outdoors, working in the yard, and travelling the world.
Thank you to all who cared for Barney during his many difficult years with dementia. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held.
In sympathy if friends so wish, donations may be made in Barney's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

So many lovely memories of growing up in Thompson with your family and dog, Penny. Collecting dandelions, rolling down the hill, eating carrots fresh out of your garden... Your parents were such gentle, lovely people and it was wonderful to connect with them when they moved to Winnipeg. We would often see them at The Rady Centre and seeing them reconnect with my parents, Don and Della, was heartwarming. We wish you all the best as you move forward with them both as your guardian angels. - Posted by: Anne Kresta (nee Danko) (family friend) on: Jan 26, 2023

My condolences to Barney and Kass's family. My parents knew your parents....we lived at 167 Juniper. We were gifted with a painting of Pissu Falls painted by your Mother, when we were married. My Mother had the winter version which I received on her passing. They hang on our wall and are our connection with my life in Thompson. RIP Kass and Barney - Posted by: Cheryl (Maltby) Annand (Former Thompson neighbour) on: Jan 22, 2023
