WALTER LESIUK
April 10, 1931 January 15, 2023
With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our loving husband, father and grandfather, Walter Michael Lesiuk.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife Florence, his children, Marianne (David McCabe), Teresa (Yves d'Anjou), Michael (Bev), Darlene (Kurt Wright), grandchildren, Alex, Katy, Brett, Clinton, Branden and Quinn and sister Rose (Wally Sawchyn, deceased), brother and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
Walter was born and raised on a farm in Mink Creek, Manitoba and went to school in Togo, Grandview and Dauphin before moving to Winnipeg where he met the love of his life, Florence and recently celebrated 64 years of a loving marriage. Walter enjoyed spending time with his family who, in turn enjoyed spending it with him. He was interested in all of their lives and got involved in their activities. Most of all Walter brought the family together by being welcoming, supportive and genuinely happy to be around. He enjoyed cross country skiing and started playing tennis in his 80s so he could spend quality time with family. Even in his 90s he continued creating fun for the family by participating in games, playing catch and building fires to sit around. He and his father built a cottage at Albert Beach by hand using mostly salvaged wood from CNR and manual tools. That cottage continues to be thoroughly enjoyed by his family.
Walter became a certified accountant and enjoyed a 38-year career at Canadian National Railroad. He was a man of faith and volunteered as Treasurer with St. Michael's church, Winnipeg Music Festival, St. Michael's Brotherhood, and Knights of Columbus.
A Christian burial liturgy was celebrated by the family at St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Transcona on January 20, 2023 with Father Mark Gnutel officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Michael's renovation fund or to any of the Ukraine relief funds.

My condolences to the family. Walter has been my mother’s neighbour since we moved across the lane in 1983. He was a wonderful neighbour and such a kind man. It saddens me that I will no longer see him and wave and say hi - he will be missed. - Posted by: Lisa (Neighbor) on: Jan 21, 2023
