MURIEL JOYCE ZELMER
1931 - 2023

Our cherished Mom/Granny was called home in the early hours of January 20, 2023, to be with her Saviour Jesus Christ. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints" Psalm 116:15
Muriel was predeceased by her husband Glen and all her siblings. Left to mourn her loss are her daughters, Patti (Jim) Evans, Robin (Ron) Hampton and Glenna (Kurt) Antonowitsch. She was blessed with eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mom was born on November 10, 1931 in Winnipeg to parents Thomas and Eleanor Kells. She was a very faithful member of Grace Chapel while she lived in St. Vital, and later on at St. James Gospel Chapel when she relocated to Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence. In her earlier years she supported Faith Bible Camp, volunteering in different capacities. Muriel worked for many years for the City of Winnipeg until her retirement 30 years ago. She grew up during the depression years which helped to shape her ability to be financially responsible.
Muriel will be remembered as a loving mom and grandmother who enjoyed the times when her family got together. She appreciated a good laugh, even at her own expense. She will be greatly missed.
We are grateful for the caring staff at Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence where Mom lived for nine years, and the compassionate staff at Oakview Place who went above and beyond particularly in Mom's final days.
A celebration of Mom's life was held on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Faith Bible Camp, 760 Charleswood Rd., Winnipeg, MB R2R 1K6.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I have many happy memories of working with Muriel in Treasury/Money Management at The City of Winnipeg. Muriel was an excellent employee….dedicated, accurate and hard working…and she was well liked by all of her co-workers. I had always called her Mrs. Zelmer, as her oldest daughter Patti and I were about the same age. On the first day we started working together, she told me that I had to start calling her Muriel, if we were going to be working together every day. Muriel and her husband Glen were a great team….and when I saw them, I would say, “Hi Muriel…Hi Mr. Zelmer”….and then Mr. Zelmer said to me, “if you are going to call my wife, Muriel, you better start calling me Glen!”. Ruth and I were always have to see Muriel at St. James Gospel Chapel. We loved hearing her laugh, and she always had a warm and welcoming smile. - Posted by: Ken Hayes (Friend) on: Jan 28, 2023
