JOAN BLACKMORE

Suddenly, on January 24, 2023, our dear Mom passed away.
Born near Liverpool, England in 1936 she immigrated to Canada in 1952. While working at Winnipeg Photo she met our Dad Richard Blackmore and they married in 1957. Joan was predeceased by her mother Dora in 1990 and Richard in 1992. She managed the United Cigar Store in the Hotel Fort Garry, the Den for Men at St. Vital Mall and worked as a cashier at the Convention Centre. Joan opened Bygone Treasures, an antique store on Osborne and volunteered with Archwood 55+. Mom enjoyed family trips to Grand Beach, hosting holiday dinners and playing Canasta with the Card Ladies. Later, Joan spent many summers at her Winnipeg Beach cottage, quiet times doing crosswords, jigsaw puzzles and watching Coronation Street with her cup of tea. She looked forward to Monday Bingo Nights, Weekend Jazz at the Pemby and seeing her grandkids at their activities.
She leaves behind her children, Ken (Cheryl), Jim, David (Gwen) and Heather (Mike) and grandchildren, Anna, Emily, Sarah, Madeline, Delaney, and Jackson.
We thank the Seine River Residence and appreciate the Grace Hospital's efforts during difficult times.
A Celebration of Life will be 2:30 p.m., Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Archwood Community Centre, 565 Guilbault St.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • My memories of Joan go way back when we both lived on Elizabeth Rd., Windsor Park. The Blackmore family lived a few doors down from myself. I was Jackie Cameron in those days. Both being brits we had a lot in common and she was such a lovely lady. my condolences to all her family. I only just saw the obituary today. - Posted by: Jacky Morry (Friend ) on: Feb 12, 2023

  • I knew the Blackmores as good neighbors, right from the time when they moved onto the street, and Joan was always busy doing something or making a project and was always on the go with an idea or two, she was always busy, but I don't think she ever missed a episode of her favorite tv program "Coronation Street". - Posted by: Mark Horobec (neighbor) on: Feb 04, 2023

  • I offer Joan's family my sincere sympathy at this sad time. As one who came into her life relatively recently, I am grateful for her friendship and kindness and I am very glad to have known her. She will be missed. - Posted by: Heather Birtles (Friend) on: Jan 29, 2023

  • My condolences to Ken and all the family. My early years in Winnipeg included much contact with my cousin Joan, Richard and Joan’s mother Dora, my dear godmother. I have fond memories of being flower girl at Joan’s wedding. I remember her laugh. I inherited her bike. Richard repaired my roller skates. She was part of so many happy childhood family memories. My heart goes out to all who will miss her. - Posted by: Beth McCormick (Cousin) on: Jan 29, 2023
