ROBERT DAVID ROSS
With profound sadness we announce that Bob passed away on January 24, 2023, in Ottawa at the age of 75.
Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Suzanne; brother Alan (Moira) of Kanata, and in-laws, Paulette and Maurice Abraham, Elisabeth Ross and Christine Grant. Bob was the beloved uncle of Andrea, Sandy, Anne, Rob, Michelle, Richard, Gilles and Guy.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Ellen and Gordon Ross of St. James and his two younger brothers, Ian and Brian.
Born and raised in St. James, Bob attended Silver Heights Collegiate. He graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1969. During those years he met and formed lifelong friendships with three special people in his life: Keith Simm, Willy Fritsch and Finlay Brown.
Bob loved his job as a Research Chemist with the City of Winnipeg Water and Waste Department, retiring in 2009 after 35 years of service. He was an avid tennis player and golfer. In retirement he hung up his tennis racket and took up curling. Bob will be remembered for his love of photography, his passion for film and his enjoyment of diverse music genres, usually in the company of his beloved cats, Baxter and Mya.
Bob and Suzie travelled extensively throughout Canada and the US. Other favourite destinations included Cuba, Mexico, the Caribbean, and in particular the UK and Europe. They shared many wonderful adventures in France, Portugal, Italy and the Netherlands with their dear friends Ian and Judi Ferries from England.
In 2018 Bob and Suzie embarked on a new adventure when they moved to beautiful eQuinelle golfing community in Kemptville, ON where Bob enjoyed being close to family.
Per Bob's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held in Winnipeg at a later date.

Suzie. I was deeply shaken & shocked to hear of Bob's passing. I remember Bob's terrific sense of humour and great support he always gave his friend and colleagues. When he retired, I was so happy for the both of you and knew how much you both were looking forward to the next chapter in your lives. Bob continues to remain a very happy memory in my mind, and I will be forever grateful for his friendship, even though we did lose touch after his retirement. Please accept my deepest condolences. Sad to see that Bob has passed. I worked with Bob at the City for some of his 36 years. He contributed a lot working on behalf of the public with his focus on protecting the environment. - Posted by: Barry MacBride (Coworker ) on: Feb 05, 2023

If it is possible for an obituary to be wonderful, the above is a total encapsulation of a well lived life enjoyed by everyone who knew Bob Ross. A good friend who was always the best of company and a total Canadian, be it at a football game, a hockey match or on the golf course. Our travels in Europe were brightened and all the better for the his company whether on the World War 1 Battlefields, he gave our visit to Vimy Ridge real meaning, or supervising shopping in different capital cities. A drink with Bob at the end of a day visiting was a benign experience which we will miss totally. God rest you Bob Ross and our absolute condolences and sympathy to Suzie and all the family. - Posted by: Ian Ferries (Friend) on: Feb 05, 2023

Suzie: I was greatly saddened to learn today of Bob‘s passing. It has been many years since we connected, but I would often think of you guys and wonder how you were doing. I very much enjoyed working with Bob during my time at the lab. Bob and I got on well together. I also enjoyed the many social times we spent together. I know from experience that the next while will be hard for you as the loss of a spouse is such life changing event. My heart goes out to you and my thoughts are with you. Take care. It was great for me to meet Bob and Suzie in Winnipeg at their 40th wedding anniversary, and Alan and I were so delighted when they decided to move to the Ottawa area to be closer to us. We have enjoyed many good times with Bob since then and as recent as this past Christmas, he and Suzie enjoyed turkey with all the fixings at our house, along with members of our family. He was a super guy, and he fought very hard to stay with us. Sadly it was not to be. He will be terribly missed by all his Ottawa family. - Posted by: Moira Winch (sister in law) on: Feb 04, 2023

My husband David and I live next door to Bob and Suzie. We have spent many hours together in each other's yards. We had the privilege of really getting to know them. We had wonderful chats, enjoyed a cocktail or two, and shared many dinners. Our dear friend Bob will be sorely missed. He will be forever in our hearts. Suzanne. Sending my most sincere sympathy on the loss of your husband, Bob. It is a very long time since you heard from me. I am Mora Simms sister. Bob and you had many wonderful experiences during your fifty years together and I hope these memories bring comfort to you. My memory is the Solve the Mystery Party at your home in Winnipeg. Bob was the victim and police inspector. He was always a fun person. May he rest in peace. My thoughts are with you. Diane Miller. - Posted by: Diane Miller (Friend ) on: Feb 04, 2023
