WAYNE NELSON

With his children by his side Wayne took his final breath on January 22, 2023 at St. Boniface Hospital. He was welcomed into the world by the late Clarence Nelson and Olive Hembroff on June 10, 1948 in Atikokan, Ontario. After spending his childhood growing up in Ontario, Wayne decided he needed a change and in 1968 he moved west to Winnipeg with his parents.
After arriving in Winnipeg he would soon meet the love of his life, the late Louise Blahnik. They were married on August 7, 1971 and had four children together, Sherry, Mark, Chris and Adam, raising them in the home they built in Grande Pointe on the late Jack Blahnik's farm land. Wayne enjoyed the outdoors and playing sports. Living in the country allowed him to spend countless hours in the backyard with his children playing hockey, baseball and other sports. Wayne was also blessed to have met his 4 grand kids, Austin, Addison, Mila and Hunter. Although the time with them was cut short, when he did see them his face would light up with joy.
Wayne worked at the Royal Canadian Mint where he had a successful 25 year career. He was also a jack of all trades and it seemed like he could do or fix anything as he was the family exterminator, mechanic, plumber and carpenter. He was a self learner and one of the last projects Wayne completed was building a gazebo for Louise, something we can all look at with fond memories of the both of them.
A special thank you is extended to the compassionate staff at the St Boniface Hospital for the care provided to Wayne and for the assistance provided to the family during this difficult time. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration of life held at a later date with close family and friends.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, a donation may be made to CancerCare Manitoba in Wayne's memory.

  • I keep the family history of the Irish couple who came to Canada and set down their Manitoba roots in 1899. Waynes grandma Minnie was the oldest child of that fine hard working new Canadian family. Wayne and his family are part of that legacy. Well lived Wayne. - Posted by: Betty Jackson (Cousin) on: Feb 04, 2023

  • To the Nelson and Blahnik families So very sorry to learn of Wayne's passing, he was always a friendly and honest neighbor and always enjoyed a good laugh. I can remember your parent's wedding as if it were just yesterday, those were big shindigs in the day. May it be of comfort to all of you in knowing that Wayne has met the Face of God. In sympathy and prayer for the journey of his soul. - Posted by: Darlene Hoffman nee: Polanski (neighborhood friend) on: Feb 04, 2023
