ROSANNA MARGARET FULTHORPE
May 31, 1930 - January 4, 2023

With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunty and friend Rosanna Margaret.
Margaret is survived by her son, Joseph Fulthorpe (Anna), daughter Leslie Alexander (Vaughan), daughter-in-law Donna Fulthorpe, grandchildren, Robert Fulthorpe (Jaimie), Stewart Fulthorpe (Kelsey), Christine Fulthorpe, Braden Alexander, Stephen Alexander (Courtney) Alana Alexander and great-grandchildren, Kloey, Kinsley, Easton and June.
She was predeceased by her husband David Reginald Fulthorpe and son Robert Freeman Fulthorpe.
Born in Seattle to parents Rosa (Peterson) and Freeman Arnason, Margaret grew up in Saskatoon where she met her husband, Dave. They were married in 1949 and moved to Winnipeg where they eventually raised their family in Charleswood. Mom was active in the United Church for many years and volunteered for the Heart & Stroke Association.
She learned to drive a car at a time many women had not and also gave lessons to several of the neighbourhood women. She was at our dad's side for the design and building of our new cottage at Malachi where she spent many summers holding court on the deck where everyone was welcome. She always felt her most important job was that of a mother and grandmother and she did that well. In fact, she mothered most who knew her with acceptance and kind encouragement. Grandma Margie believed in kindness.
Margaret was an avid card player, particularly bridge and cribbage, teaching anyone who was eager to learn and she mastered the iPad while in her 90s. It was her greatest joy to see pictures of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to read and listen to the CBC and was an active member of the Reh-Fit Centre.
She found much peace and contentment at her beloved summer home at Malachi, where she enjoyed gardening, bird watching, pressing flowers and often, a cold beer on the deck with friends and family.
Her final years were spent at the Kiwanis Centre, where she enjoyed the friendship and kindness of both staff and residents, particularly her friend and neighbour Beryl.
She successfully battled many serious medical conditions in her later years, but in the end it simply took more energy than she had left.
A celebration of her life will be held at 4:00 p.m. at FortWhyte Alive, 1961 McCreary Rd. on Monday, February 13, 2023.
Donations may be made to Crohn's and Colitis Canada or FortWhyte Alive.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I will miss my Auntie Marg a lot. She was extremely empathic and insightful and smart. Aunt Marg had the gift of knowing what mattered - pay attention to this, ignore that, talk about this, don't look at that. Tell me about this. I will so miss our talks and her casual redirect of subjects. Malachi will be a lot more empty without her and Rob. But I look forward to the dragonflies. - Posted by: Roberta Fulthorpe (Niece) on: Feb 12, 2023

  • I remember Margaret from my childhood days in Regina. She visited us and we would visit her and her parents in Saskatoon. Her mother Rosa and my mother Alma were always best of friends. My remembrances of Margaret is that she was a kind and thoughtful person. My condolences to her family. - Posted by: Roy Kading (friend) on: Feb 10, 2023

  • We feel so fortunate to have spent time with Grandma Margie over the last few years. We will miss the engaging conversations we shared as well as her positive and kind presence. She really was a joy to be around and she will be missed but not forgotten. We send love and condolences to Margies family. - Posted by: Scott & Jackie Bannatyne (family friends) on: Feb 04, 2023
