JEANNINE MARIE LEA JOHNSON
(née LAPOINTE)

The Johnson family regrets to announce that Jeannine Marie Léa Johnson passed away peacefully in Ste. Anne, Manitoba on January 31, 2023, at the age of 88 years.
She is survived by her five children: Paulette (Robert), Linda (Raymond), Patrick (Agnès), Renald (Monique), and Lorraine (Laurent), her 12 grandchildren: Nicole, Claude, Léona, André, Martin, Denise, Lise, Léon, Philipe, Brigitte, Justin, and Jude, her sister Denise Johnson, her sisters-in-law: Albina Lapointe and Georgette Ste. Marie, her brothers-in-law: Guillaume Johnson and Ernest Desautels, as well as many great and great-great- grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Laurent Johnson, who passed away on August 12, 1992, as well as by all her brothers: Hyacinthe, Raymond, and Henri Lapointe and several sisters: Blandine Paradis, Marie Ange Lavallée, Hélène Ouimet, Solange Dorge, Adeline Reitmier, Rita Johnson, and Mae Bérard.
Born on September 19, 1934, in La Salle, Manitoba, she was the daughter of the late Sévère and Rosaide (née Lamontagne) Lapointe.
Jeannine lived a long and beautiful life. In Lorette, she was a postmistress (Canada Post) for more than 30 years and owner of the liquor store Chez Jeannine. On November 14, 1953, she celebrated her marriage to Laurent, the love of her life. Together they raised their family in Lorette. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her children and family gatherings. She also maintained many hobbies: caring for her flowers, playing cards, crocheting and crossword puzzles and watching her favourite soaps on television. Later in life, she discovered the virtues of the iPad.
Several great-grandchildren called her Mémère JJ. She was known for her good humour (she loved to tease) and knew how to put people at ease. In addition, she always cultivated a strong Catholic faith and had a significant devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and St. Thérèse of Lisieux.
As of October 2013, she was the first resident of the Villa Youville Pavilion. She loved her life at the Pavilion so much that she naturally became the unofficial welcoming committee for new residents. The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Villa Youville seniors' residence and Sister Irène Rioux for their comforting care.
Funeral service will be held at Notre-Dame-de-Lorette Parish (Lorette, MB) on Saturday, February 11, 2023, with prayers beginning at 10:30 a.m. and Mass at 11:00 a.m. The co-celebrants will be Father Charles Fillion and Father Armand Le Gal, OMI. The funeral will be followed by a private burial in the parish cemetery at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been made by the Desjardins Funeral Home.
The family invites you to share your sympathy by making a donation to CancerCare Manitoba in memory of the late Laurent Johnson.
