JULIA HELEN MONASTER

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Julia Helen Monaster on February 3, 2023 at the St. Boniface Hospital.
She leaves behind her son Nick Hasiuk; daughter Beverley (Murray Simsolo); son David Hasiuk (Sandy) and granddaughter Amanda (Bill Battershill). She is also survived by her sister Mary Rose Mrazek; brother-in-law Steve Wityshyn; sister-in-law Mavis Penaska (Ben); as well as other family members and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Mary Kotasek; husband Nick Hasiuk (February 1979); husband Edward Monaster (December 2004); sisters, Frances Mrak and Agnes Brown; daughter-in-law Brenda Stern (December 2020) and sister-in-law Eva Wityshyn (November 2008).
Julie was born in Lethbridge, Alberta on November 17, 1934 to Frank and Mary Kotasek, the second oldest of four girls. Growing up on the farm, she learned the value of hard work. On October 11, 1957, she moved to Winnipeg when Nick was transferred from Edmonton. She had various jobs in her life, working at A & W, the Millionaire Drive Inn, a dental assistant with Dr. Laba and then at the Dental College, Stylerite Industries and finally at Con Force Industries.
On February 1,1986, along with her sister Mary Rose and friend Jean Klasz, she started Mom's Perogy Factory on Jefferson and Sinclair. It was a thriving business almost right from the start, with three schools nearby. The kids loved her. She sold the business in 2001.
After selling the business, she enjoyed going to the various legions and seniors' centres for their noon hour dances. She made many friends and dancing partners there. She was an avid five pin bowler, which brought her great pleasure and many trophies.
Thank you to the staff at Ward 5A for all their care.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
