Jack was born in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan to Elsie and Archie Dickson and big brother Roger. He was raised with help of close neighbours, particularly Aunt Ella and Uncle Frank. He attended Ross Elementary and Alfred E. Peacock high school, then U of Saskatchewan and St. Andrews College attaining the B.D. which is now an M.Div. and the U of Winnipeg for his STM. His ministry touched lives in various small towns in Saskatchewan, and Hamiota, Dugald, Anola, Shaughnessy, and Morris United churches in Manitoba.
He was a life-long supporter of the Saskatchewan Rough riders, and the NDP, and was honoured to be chaplain of the Morris Legion. He loved to lead worship, talk to people, read, listen to jazz, play bridge, and care for his family, wife Dawn, son Gordon, grandchildren Kathrine and Nate and mother Dora, daughter Meagan (Jason) Castonguay, and grandchildren Julia and James, brother Roger (Barbara) and best friend Gordon Cowie (Linda).
His memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 13, 2023 at John Black Memorial Church in Winnipeg. The family asks that masks be worn to protect the vulnerable.
An interment by family will be held later.

Members of the Morris Legion Branch and Morris United Church were truly blessed to have Jack as their minister. Jack prepared a lovely eulogy for my father, also a member of the Morris Legion Branch, and I remember him as a true gentleman. My condolences to all of Jack's loved ones. He was truly inspirational. - Posted by: Paul Godkin (Member of the Morris Royal Canadian Legion Branch) on: Apr 09, 2023

Although more than 30 years have passed since we journeyed together at Dugald United Church, warm memories of those times remain with us. Jack was an inspiration as a caring and compassionate soul as well as a thought-provoking minister. Dawn, Gordon, and Meagan, may you find comfort in knowing that his kindness left an indelible mark on those who were blessed to have known him. Brian and I were so sorry to hear about Jack's passing. I can still remember when I worked with him at the Dugald United Church, and had an extremely trying day he told me not to "sweat the small stuff". That has stuck with me for years. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dawn and the family at this time. Memories will last forever. Brian and Karen Hunt - Posted by: Karen Hunt (friend) on: Feb 11, 2023
